A very good fighter who has done a lot with his ability. Obviously he got to the top of the mountain so he didn't underachieve and I don't think he overachieved either - he was somewhat fortunate that he was in the era he was in but that wasn't his fault - he beat the fighters put in front of him, it's a shame he never got to fight peak Joshua or Haye but there you go, such is boxing.

I don't think Overachieved or Underachieved applies to him. I think he got the most he could've gotten out of his ability.

He underachievered after Klitschko, he overachieved coming back after his problems in my opinion

Neither.
Even if he became undisputed. Thats not an over achievement for him

It's to be seen. If he was better than Joshua and everyone else then he should have been undisputed for 5 years between Wlad to Usyk. He should have been able to clear out the division and remained undefeated but it's likely that he would have lost the odd fight if he faced more top 10 opponents. However, he never proved he was better than most of the top 5 guys. His best win since Wlad is arguably Whyte.

Probably Wilder.
Always thought Wilder would beat Whyte.
He was not special at all

Underachieved in a way. He could have got far more out of his natural ability without all the layoffs and poor lifestyle etc. Maybe even taken his fitness to a level high enough to hang with Usyk over 12. We'll never know.

Underachieved for me. As I said earlier in the other thread, I believe he was at or approaching his best circa: Chis 2, Hammer, Wlad time whilst training with Peter and before piling the weight on. He lost his peak two years IMO.
Edit: but, philosophically, I don't think anybody ever over or under achieves in reality.

He done the best he could , he's been lucky that the modern generation of heavys is nothing speciel , Lets have it right Chisora and Whyte are still relevent , , Wilder his best wins are not being lauded about so much since we all know whenever Wilder stepped up what happens ,
But you can only beat whats available at the time and he's therefore not overacheived in that regards , However how would he have gone if he had been
a fully consumate , profesional who , did'nt take time off to get over the boars bollocks saga , stayed of the piss and probably sniff , and never packed on so much weight in between fights , , i think he would of done better and by that i can only mean , if he was has dedicated to his craft has Usyk is , he may well off been better , so in that regards he's underacheived but its all guess , so all in all i don't think being the world champ for a while , and now at his age number 2 in the world is under achieving , he has his rightful spot in place

Whyte has multiple better wins than Wilder. Whyte beat the guy that beat Wilder. So in terms of achievement, not the eye test, I think Whyte is a better win.

Even the win over Parker has an * next to it.
Facts are facts though

Absolutely underachieved.
3 Chisora fights, two were a waste of time
Wasted 3 years of his prime bottling the Klitschko rematch.
Messed everyone around with Joshua and Uysk.
His prime was from 28-36 and achieved way less than someone with his abilities should have.
He could have cleaned out the division before Uysk came on the scene and created a legacy for himself.

I'd say he did brilliantly. Nobody guessed the career he went on to have. Two points losses to an all time great and became a genuine household name. He could have done better but could definitely have done worse.

It's interesting to think of how Heavyweight history would've been changed if Fury had simply pressed on after the Wladimir fight, and never went away. In some ways it might've been good for him to have stepped away though. I know I didn't wanna see him again anytime soon after the Wladimir fight. It gave people time enough to forget what a dogsh*t fight that was, and just remember that this guy was the returning Champion.

Well i suppose theres always the fact , i don't know how much he has put in the bank , but i would imagine its more than he's ever gong to need and plenty left over for his kids , so i guess under or over , it does'nt matter what he has done is ACHIEVED

it feels weird to say he's underachieved, cuz he did very well and i never woulda guessed when he was a bit of a bumbling oaf getting scares vs the likes of pajkic that he'd go as far as he did. the boxing skills he showed over the second half of his career werent nearly as good to start, he improved his boxing a lot.
that said, there is a clear period of about 3 years that he essentially wasted away, so i suppose he could done a bit more. but overall he did very well and i think close to his best, i dont think it's like some fighters where theres a huge gap between what they did and what they were capable off

Underachieved because he spunked his peak away. 3 years wasted after beating Klit and 2 years after Whyte by facing Chisors in the rematch nobody wanted to see and that MMA goon

I guess its how you consider overachieving or underachieving.
Money wise securing his family financially for life then I`d say he has most definitely overachieved. As others have already said - he wasn`t expected to go too far early on. But made the best of what he had - with a generous helping of luck - and earned fabulously.
legacy wise, then I think he underachieved. He could have tested himself against the best of his weak era and possibly proved himself to be the top guy - but he didn`t, he just talked about how he could, and then failed against a guy he dismissed as a midget gap toothed rabbit and has no standout wins now that Wilder has been badly exposed.

Out of interest, who did you have as the best of Wlad's era during that period? Or better than Usyk now? Do you class Ali's performances against Holmes and Berbick as badly exposing Joe Frazier's win against him?

Personally I think Fury has been lucky with the era he has fought in. I wouldn't put Fury anything better than Euro level at best in the 80s and 90s. Thats not Furys fault however.
I would love to see him fight Dubois and you never know in 2025.
Couple of fights I wish he would have taken a year or 2 ago, AJ for one and Joe Joyce maybe 2 years ago. Maybe a fight with Zhang who is a big lad. Again Ajagba might have been a decent fight rather than the mass trilogy fights that Fury enjoys. I hope Fury stays around for enough time for Moses to put him to slumber.
Anyway as far as I'm concerned Fury has underachieved in this era. But hes never been owt flash. That's just my opinion.

In the 90s he’d have been a herbie hide wbo type
