I see that Mormeck & Braithwaite fight this weekend for the WBC & WBA belts, should Johnny forget about Cantatore who keeps dropping out of their propsosed fight & concentrate on the winner of this match even if it meant dropping the WBO belt, i'd like to see Johnny give it a try, why the hell not.

£70-100k a defence? Is that reason enough?

To be honest, at this stage of his career, it would be a big risk, because he isn't a draw, he would be very unlikely to find himself high up in the rankings of any of the other organisations.

It's such a shame, Nelson is fantastic at what he does, but he has never gotten a defining fight to prove himself. I can't say he's thrilling to watch, but technically he is braaaaalliant, as Avid Merrion would say.

for all the fact that he was involved in one of the great stinkers of our, or any other, time, I can't help having a soft spot for JN

he keeps himself in prime shape all the time. he is, as James says, technically one of the most accomplished fighters in the world and he has at least defended his title a few times against live opponents.

He must have a couple of million in the bank by now and strikes me as shrewd enough to have invested wisely.

The best scenario for him would be to have one or two more "softer" defences and go out with a big domestic fight against an up and coming cruiser. I suspect he would be smart enough to win that and get out with a bulging wallet

He is also proving to be a lucid colour man for TV boxing and will no doubt make a good fist of that too.

I actually think he is a credit to the sport and the best example of how the Ingle style works to its best effect

Nelson couldnt sell out his front room so he's got zero chance of getting in the mix with the other champs. If he was going to relinquish he should have done it years ago. In all honesty his title reign has been long but pretty poor in terms of level of opposition.

Yes, and he's not exactly ingratiated himself to Sports Network in recent times either, so I cannot see allegedly setting the phone wires alight trying to get him a big fight....

I think Nelson's career will slowly fade into the background and he will spend more and more time on his media career, which I think is no bad thing, he's definetly a breath of fresh air as a pundit, and doesn't seem afraid to call it as it is.

Cantatore should fornicate off and fight someone who is prepared to wait around for a year. Nelson should be pressing for the WBO to give him someone else, agreed.

Nelson-Enzo will happen later this year, I believe.

To be honest Nelson should retire and concentrate on his broadcasting. If Enzo was too spark him out badly which is a distinct possibility as Nelson is no doubt slowing AND inactive - that would be a horrible way for him to go. He should leave now with diginity intact and retire as WBO champ.

I would also consider the distinct possibility that Nelson knocks fornicate out of him. Nelson can punch when he wants to, and he's been in with harder hitting fighters than Enzo,.

I actually think Enzo is a relatively straight forward fight for Nelson

His skills have not gone downhill so far and, when he wants to stand and trade, JN can.

Of course there's that possibility also. What I'm trying to say is I'd hate to see Nelson get sparked by someone who couldnt have laid a glove on him years ago, be that Enzo or someone else. His career is going nowhere after all.

Johnny Nelson could defend his WBO crown one or twice a year for the next ten years given some of the opposition regarded as credible by the WBO.

His abject performance versus Guillermo Jones aside, when he was beaten in an awful match but gifted the MD decision, I see no signs of decline in Nelson physically.

And his style, which isn't entirely reflex based but is VERY elusive will stand him in good stead for whatever he undertakes in the remainder of his career.

Its also easy to forget that he's got a terrific chin, can bang when inclined, is likely to be as big if not bigger than anyone you elect to put him in with and has more experience than anyone in the division.

He was apparently excellent in his bout in Germany - Johnny can carry on yet.

But I also agree - his media unput is refreshing, accurate and full of insight. He rarely leaves the other cliched pundits any room for manouvre.

I'd like to see him partnering Ian Darke at ringside as swiftly as possible.

Definitely, or replace Adam Smith with him would be an even shrewder move. Nelson is excellent and very articulate.

He does have a great chin, but everyone's punch resistance goes at some point and his will too. I just think he should bow out at the top if he carries on he will get badly KO'd at some point with his style.

Their rankings lately have been ludicrous, Witter 6th, behind some highly undeserving no-marks whove been elevated above him suddently.

It amazes me how many continental fighters do this, Christian Sanavia, Branco, Battaglia, and now Cantatore.

The WBO are ludicrous, the worst of the top 4 bodies by a long stretch. Just a look at some of Sicknote's mandatories says it all.
