Keith Thurman vs Brock Jarvis reportedly set for March 12th in Sydney

Keith Thurman, out of action for nearly three years, has been tapped to fight Australia’s Brock Jarvis in the coming months

The Daily Telegraph’s Dean Ritchie reports that No Limit Boxing will soon announce a March 12th clash between former welterweight titlist Keith Thurman and Jeff Fenech protege Brock Jarvis.

There is, of course, zero guarantee that the fight will actually take place. Thurman (30-1, 22 KO) has fought just once in the last 5.5 years, bouncing back from a 2019 loss to Manny Pacquiao with a solid decision over Mario Barrios in 2022. He was slated to return in a super welterweight clash with Tim Tszyu early last year, but ultimately withdrew with a biceps injury, pacing the way for Tszyu to fight Sebastian Fundora instead and ultimately derail his own career.

Jarvis (22-1, 20 KO) got absolutely torched by Liam Paro in 2022 and his two wins since came over very limited opposition. It’s a much more winnable matchup for Thurman on paper, but he has to get to the ring first. Might not be a bad idea to get Tszyu on standby; he could do worse than Jarvis for a comeback.

Jarvis refuses to concede the fight is a gamble, boldly declaring: “It’s not a gamble, mate. I will win because I’m the better fighter”.

“I’m very confident going into this fight and I’m solid mentally. I believe in my preparation and that will show on fight night. Keith is getting older now and this is perfect timing for me,” he said.

Keith Thurman returns to fight in Australia on March 12

Keith Thurman has unexpectedly agreed to return to the ring in a fight with Brock Jarvis at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia on March 12.

The former welterweight champion’s career was considered in jeopardy after a torn biceps forced him to withdraw from a date with Tim Tszyu in March 2024.

Instead, one year on, and having fought only once since his only defeat – by the great Manny Pacquiao in July 2019 – he will fight outside of his native America for the first time, against Australia’s Jarvis at 154lbs.

Jarvis, 26, lost for the first time in October 2022, inside a round at junior welterweight against his compatriot Liam Paro. He has since recorded successive victories – at welterweight over Marlon Paniamogan, and at middleweight over Adrian Rodriguez in December 2024.

That No Limit, Tszyu’s co-promoters, are overseeing Thurman-Jarvis means that the winner can be expected to later be matched with Tszyu, who remains his country’s most popular fighter but is being forced to rebuild following successive defeats – by Sebastian Fundora, who replaced Thurman as his opponent, and Bakhram Murtazaliev in October 2024.

Michael Zerafa, also of Australia, is to fight Germany’s Besir Ay on the undercard. Zerafa hopes to pursue a fight with Tszyu, or Tszyu’s younger brother Nikita, later in 2025.

George Kambosos Jnr, incidentally, is also on course to fight in Sydney in March, according to his promoters Matchroom.

That is a weird fight. Brock was a batunweight… now he is going to fight Thurman at 147 or 154….

I guess if brock wins he probably wins a fight with Nikita tszyu… or zerafa or even Timmy.

This fight won't happen.

On the eve of the fight, Thurman will either get injured adjusting the climate control in his car, hanging out his washing, or picking his nose, then you won't see him again until 2039, when he'll announce another fight that he won't ever engage in.

Brock Jarvis now looks like Dougal from Father Ted.

And I agree with the post above. Thurman (who i really admired on his way up) will pull out.

Undercard announced for Keith Thurman-Brock Jarvis

The promoter No Limit has announced the undercard for the upcoming junior middleweight bout between Keith Thurman and Brock Jarvis on March 12. The card will take place at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, and is stacked with Australian boxers, including Jarvis.

The co-main event features Aussie veteran Michael Zerafa, 32-5 (20 KOs), and Besir Ay of Germany, 19-1 (9 KOs), in a middleweight contest.

Also on the card are Mexican-born, Australia-residing Mateo Tapia, 17-0-1 (10 KOs), and Sergei Vorobev of Russia, 20-2 (14 KOs). They will meet in a 10-rounder at middleweight.

Tonga Tongotongo, perfect at 9-0 (9 KOs), will fight Ralph Etienne, 2-2 (2 KOs) in an all-Australian six-round light heavyweight bout while Sonny Knight, 4-0 (3 KOs), meets Alessandro Grippa, 2-0 (1 KO) to kick-off the card in another Aussie-on-Aussie fight, scheduled for five rounds at junior welterweight.

Yes, absolutely on the money.

I know he's injury prone, but it surely cannot account for the lack of ring activity during the last 7 years or so.

The dude just isn't interested in fighting anymore.

In one corner we have an inactive and aging welter/jnr middle, in the other we have a younger bantam/feather who wants to be a bodybuilder?
I’ll go with the real fighter here, Thurman by KO inside 5 rounds

Brock Jarvis has gone up a weight division every fight for his last 7 fights (actually the 7th on that list he skipped 154 and went up 2 weight divisions)…. Now he is ticking off the 154….

8 divisions in 8 fights. From 21 to 27 years old…

This is the definition of career mismanagement by what was a pretty decent talent. He was too big for 118 and 122, but Shame he didn’t have a proper run at 126 or 130 or 135…Before going though the weights as required.

Jarvis only wins if Thurman has nothing left. 3 yrs of inactivity is a long time, but this is a very limited opponent for Thurman
