Will the Saudi's try and buy Boxrec?

They have made machavelian moves on Ring, increased their holding in Dazn, now to complete the jigsaw will they try and take over Boxrec for complete legitimacy?
You don't know PIGG?
Is it a joke?Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 08:33You don't know PIGG?![]()

Or am I supposed to know him
Genuinely thought everyone knew him. He must have had hundreds of accounts on here by now.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 08:40Is it a joke?

Yeah they tend to buy sh*t for about 10 to 20 times what it's worth so I'm sure he'd love to get that offer.
It's just people who love boxing.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 16:49 it also says it is updated by volunteers - genuinely interested - who would volunteer to update fights etc? It sounds like a really boring job even if paid
Is Boxrec a business?
Thanks Kiwi. My beer-impacted updates would definitely not be accurate and I’m so biased I’d be listing people as winning if I liked them even if they lost. I’d turn it into Dodgyrec.KiwiRider wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 19:09It's just people who love boxing.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 16:49 it also says it is updated by volunteers - genuinely interested - who would volunteer to update fights etc? I'd love to update the fights I go to here at the Auckland Boxing Club, but the beers are only $6 (£3) and I'm not sure my data would be entirely accurate.
John Shep set it up years ago. From the only time our paths crossed on a Matchroom show, I formed the opinion he was a decent, genuine guy without ego (unlike many in boxing).SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 19:13Thanks Kiwi. Does the original person own it still? Does it generate some money? I’m just interested. I’d hope it makes something as clearly a lot goes into it.
Thanks for detail. Do you think Jon will sell? What do you think it’s worth? Sorry for questionsFrostieballs wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 20:10John Shep set it up years ago. Boxrec will have some value from advertising revenue, a valuable record database and I believe a contract to run the BBBofC site.
However, such fundamentals aren’t required when petro dollars are being flashed around. The Saudis main aim is maximum impact/attention.
Ask John to give you access Kiwi. I have access to put up results from shows.KiwiRider wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 19:09It's just people who love boxing.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 16:49 it also says it is updated by volunteers - genuinely interested - who would volunteer to update fights etc? I don't think the Saudis will care about fundamentals, it will all be about bragging rights and making a show.stevec@france wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 07:08 As useful as the box rec site is I doubt it has much if any real commercial value .
Seems to have limited adverts on it and I have never seen any sponsorship so in the current form its a useful database of information which is aimed at or used by a relatively small umber of people .
The Saudi`s would no doubt glitz it up and probably link it to Ring / Riyadh etc but still it will be a tool within a niche sport .
A buyout could offer the owner a lucrative exit strategy to make their life a lot nicer![]()
I have no idea Sean. I only met him once and that was 30 years ago!SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 20:32Thanks for detail. Do you think Jon will sell? What do you think it’s worth?
