They have made machavelian moves on Ring, increased their holding in Dazn, now to complete the jigsaw will they try and take over Boxrec for complete legitimacy?

Genuinely thought everyone knew him. He must have had hundreds of accounts on here by now.

Yeah they tend to buy sh*t for about 10 to 20 times what it's worth so I'm sure he'd love to get that offer.

Who owns Boxrec - it says online it was founded by John Shepperd who I think I've read elsewhere is a fella from Yorkshire. Does Boxrec have a value from sponsorship or something?

it also says it is updated by volunteers - genuinely interested - who would volunteer to update fights etc? It sounds like a really boring job even if paid

Is Boxrec a business?

It's just people who love boxing.
I'd love to update the fights I go to here at the Auckland Boxing Club, but the beers are only $6 (£3) and I'm not sure my data would be entirely accurate.

Thanks Kiwi. My beer-impacted updates would definitely not be accurate and I’m so biased I’d be listing people as winning if I liked them even if they lost. I’d turn it into Dodgyrec.

Does the original person own it still? Does it generate some money? I’m just interested. I’d hope it makes something as clearly a lot goes into it.

John Shep set it up years ago. From the only time our paths crossed on a Matchroom show, I formed the opinion he was a decent, genuine guy without ego (unlike many in boxing).

Boxrec will have some value from advertising revenue, a valuable record database and I believe a contract to run the BBBofC site.

However, such fundamentals aren’t required when petro dollars are being flashed around. The Saudis main aim is maximum impact/attention.

Thanks for detail. Do you think Jon will sell? What do you think it’s worth? Sorry for questions

Boxrec is owned by John and his wife, Marina, it's clearly a labour of love that has had fast approaching 30 years of toil put into it.

He was a computer guy who was mates with Naz's brothers and got interested in boxing through them and Naz and it went from there.

He, Marina and the editors have done more for boxing than almost anybody IMO.

Would he sell? Ask him, he posts and is a good bloke, VERY principled.

As useful as the box rec site is I doubt it has much if any real commercial value .
Seems to have limited adverts on it and I have never seen any sponsorship so in the current form its a useful database of information which is aimed at or used by a relatively small umber of people .
The Saudi`s would no doubt glitz it up and probably link it to Ring / Riyadh etc but still it will be a tool within a niche sport .
A buyout could offer the owner a lucrative exit strategy to make their life a lot nicer :D

Ask John to give you access Kiwi. I have access to put up results from shows.

I don't think the Saudis will care about fundamentals, it will all be about bragging rights and making a show.

Wether or not he would sell , I have no idea , does this site make money somehow , once again i have no idea, but its obviously a labor of love for John , time and effort put in must be huge , Would i like to see him sell it , too be honest would'nt concern me its his buisness , but i would like to see the Saudis make him a HUGE offer , then he could make his own mind up , but if he could get offered and perhaps make a nice quid , well why not efforts rewarded . . Don't know what i would do , i like the site has it is , suppose anyone came and changed it too much , i would just knock i on the head , this is the only boxing site i go on by the way , tried others , but can't be bothered watching 15 yeaar olds arguing on a computer

If the site does ever get sold to the Saudis, I reckon loyal forum posters should get a bit of a cut. Only fair really.
