Unofficial ranking of Excluded Bridgerweight etc.

Post by marcianofan »

First let me renew my (and many other members') suggestion that the rankings should stop excluding Bridgerweights per se, but instead rank them as Heavyweights or, if appropriate, Cruiserweights. I don't disagree with what I assume is the implicit stance that bridgerweight is not a legitimate division, but to me the only response to the existence of this supposed division is to either ignore it and rank them according to their weight vis a vis the real divisions or- not my preference- include them in their own division. But to exclude them from their natural division strikes me as giving some deference to this division while giving no recongnition to the fighter himself. It strikes me as the worst of both worlds.

But all that said, the reason this has come up for me again is that I'm looking at an apparent bridgerweight fight scheduled for today (Friday) between ranked heavyweight Thabiso Mchunu and Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, who appears to have the stars needed for a top-30ish ranking, but whose ranking is not showing, I'm guessing, because of the above situation.

Can someone let me know what his ranking would be right now (or before the fight, if the results post before the answer does) if he were ranked at heavyweight?

Less importantly, I waited too long to check Pawel Stepien's ranking before his fight today. I was able to estimate his ranking from archives at about #38 because he was ranked there in November, but if you wouldn't mind feeding me his exact ranking prior to his fight today, I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks in advance!

We had boxers and their managers complaining that they were in the wrong division.
