Who is the best coach in the UK?

Literally yesterday I asked who is currently the best coach in boxing (worldwide) and the responses were mostly coaches outside the UK.

So it got me wondering…..as I’m from the UK who is currently the best coach in the UK, my opinion is Shane Mcgugian…..although controversially I do have a soft spot for Ben Davison I like how he is so analytical or at least comes across that way.

So my question is…..who do you guys think is currently the best trainer from the UK?

Seeing as you’ve mentioned Ben D which will have half the forum up in arms I’ll infuriate the other half by suggesting Joe G

There are still a good few really decent amateur coaches who do the hard yards of laying down the fundamentals but seeing as this forum is focused on pro boxing.....

I would choose Shane McGuigan to be my coach.

An am coach local to me has produced 3 European champs and one world in the youths all from scratch. God knows how many national champs as well. He's taking a kid to Somerset for a club show tomorrow, that's a long way from here. I think that's what has got him the success. He'd gladly take a junior to the other side of the country to spar if it was needed. He's done all this in under ten years.

I think Peter is an excellent trainer of boxing, Tyson was at his most effective on his watch BUT it's a style for the 'purists' that doesn't appeal to the masses.

Wasn't sure about Shane in the beginning but definitely deserves the accolade at the current time .

He does I just park the dodgy Frampton family stuff as he is still a good trainer

Not surprising tho he was a drug baron so PEDS are hardly a surprise and I’m not saying he oversaw the usage just that it’s not surprising when he had a drive confiscation order for £1m.

Couple years ago i thought Shane was too yoing and more celebrity trainer with his dads backing . NOW i think different definetly establishing himself has one of the top pro trainers doing well and will get better

Peter Fury . Like said got black marks under his watch . Honest . Speaks his mind i would.nt send my son too him .his style does.nt seem to do well

DAvidson . Chancer . Talks a load of shite . Giving sermons stating the obvious ruins more than he improves . Just repeats what he hears

The best . Well not just in the Uk but all over the world the dozens of ameteur coaches who consistantly bring on beginners and turn them out to be well schooled champs . Then watch them go to trainers with a name and connections

Carl Greaves, Gary Lockett

Shane McGuigan.

Beyond the question of who is the best then there are shed load....Mark Tibbs, Jamie Moore, Adam Booth, Joe Gallagher.

Difficult to say who is the best coach in the UK. What I think of is who are the coaches who had Beterbiev, Bivol, Pirog, Golovkin, Usyk, Loma etc these type of guys

Surely these are the elite coaches in the world, unless the raw material they had was so much better than the rest

I think Rob McCracken has been the best trainer of the last 20 years.

Amateur and Pro champs, talks well but never seeks the limelight (which is probably why hasn’t been mentioned in this thread yet).

No. People were accusing Rob of shouting things, but it wasn’t him.

Rob is a really straightforward guy. When that entourage starting building I can imagine it was very frustrating for him.

Shane McGuigan for me. It’s how he improves fighters.

Did a great job improving Groves.

Okolie was at his best under him.

I don’t think many people could see a way that CBS could beat Okolie & then he was an underdog against Riakhporhe. They were brilliant wins with great game plans.

Look at the job Shane did with Josh Taylor & Carl Frampton...and note the difference in both boxer's success after they chose to leave him.

I'm not sure if he's the best, but I really like Adam Booth. Good trainer, excellent corner man.
