Jack Dempsey being knocked out of the ring by Firpo springs to mind. I can't imagine the people at ringside thought he would get up, climb back in the ring and win.

groves-froch 2.......ref still waived it, but amazing that groves got to his feet considering how he looked the first few seconds of that kd

montiel-donaire ......montiel literally rode an invisible bicycle on the canvas and was spazzing out, yet somehow then recouped enough to make it to his feet and get stopped standing when it resumed

i wonder how gutting it is, in a fight you're losing, to think youve ko'd the dude and he gets up at 9.5. the barker-geale example made me think.....if i recall right, barker actually fought back pretty well as geale went in to follow up

Yeah Barker went down like a ton of bricks and looked in agony and then at the end of the round was throwing haymakers back and when the bell rang I think he was throwing his hands up to say ‘come on en.’

Fury in that first fight after the huge knockdown came back and hurt Wilder bad to the body either later in that round or in the next round.

Ali v Frazier 1 I couldn’t believe how hard Frazier knocked Ali down and Ali was up by 4.

This is where the ref matters. Who knows Groves might have gotten flattened after that anyway.. but where’s the count?

I remember Groves trying to get up and the ref was pinning him down

groves got to his feet in the rematch, ref waived it as he was rising or just after he got to his feet if i recall right, the right call i feel, he defo not steady. and dang that leg bent under him when he fell was nasty too - even just the visual. he looked like he'd left the world for a few seconds, then a few seconds later was somehow on his feet

Ref looked at him. Didn’t even count

Did he have the same trainer from day 1 until his pro retirement?

I like Geale too. I used to train in his childhood gym when I was on my travels in Tasmania

I love the concept of watchalongs. I’d binge that. It’s like the commentary option on old DVDs, which has been bizarrely lost in the streaming era.

I spent a year travelling around Australia as a much younger man and was just showing up to different gyms all the time. I was a terrible novice amateur but they liked my enthusiasm and I was always dead polite so got to see a lot of the country.

I messaged Luke Jackson, Tasmania native who ‘d seen live against Carl Frampton, basically just saying I’m going to be staying there for a few months and asking where the best gyms are. His childhood coach called me an hour later and totally took me in, got me beat up a few times and got me a job. Was a belter little few months. I remember living there during the mad few weeks we had Spence-Porter, Inoue-Donaire and Taylor-Prograis.
