Atang should sign with Hearn IMO. FW is laden with heavyweight talent, you cannot serve them all. Hearn doesn't have any decent heavyweights, so Atang would get his full attention.

speaking of amateurs, the world boxing cup on now

odel kamara of liverpool shutout a good uzbek - that is a serious win. looks short for the weight but crafty and atheltic - with that sense of timing and distance that makes up for the lack of length. kamara been on a roll with these international events and also won last year's world cup , beating a 2021 world am champ from japan in the finals

young shw damar thomas boxing a bit like fury with te combo of huge size and those quick but effective pit pats. can do inside or outside, mixes his punches nicely, and looks like he is able to quickly compute where the openings are. sometimes when opponents get close he does get caught with wild shots he shouldnt , but overall i like the look of him. was silver medal at world youth a co uple years ago too.

patris muglazhi at light welter looking quick and well schooled, albeit i wish he would commit more at times. kinda the classic well schooled team gb style with wide stance, lots of feinting and pawing and movement.

oladimeji shittu - guy is mr stretch, so long. i didnt see his height listed, but im guessing he must be around 6'5 as a light heavy. plenty of good results on his record so he's got something about him, but his style is a very ugly watch. won his opening fight but was then soundly outpointed by a class french man who is on a roll the last year

there was a period of years around a decade ago that i felt the team gb guys were all just basically morphing into each other and that the tag you're it, feint 100 times for every punch you throw amateur style was becoming boringly prevalent here, but this crop looks more varied - if you factor in maca and atang, that's two more guys who dont follow the tap and move mold , in fact quite the opposite

the americans are a mixed bag these days, some of them are quite handy , others you wonder how they became the top guy in such a boxing rich country. is the quality that short these days?

on a positive side, the american shw is a bit of a phenom. smiley good natured guy, 26 years old (looks 36). apparently had his first ever amateur boxing match in february 2024 and has won them all since. he outpointed a good brazilian with loads of experience (home country for the event too) already. at first he doesnt look that impressive, but he's one of those guys you start to notice a bounce/rhythm to him that opponents just cant pin down

poland filling the classic polish boxing role of having plenty of good fighters but few real standouts. italy kinda the same

brazil is very impressive in the ams these days . they had one of their boys beat the uzbek paris olympic champ at light middle . albeit there is a lways a touch of hometown judging at these tournaments but the brazilians having been having very good results around the world lately

indians consistently very handy too - you wouldnt guess based on their pro ranks

team gb boxing in finland atm, and in the semis there were at least 3 fights ended on cuts from head clashes (2 with gb boxers). one happened only a minute into the fight, so they went to a decision based on that 1 minute of the guys feeling each other out , which was kind of ridiculous, but what else could they do.

It happens all the time. More worryingly, in my opinion, is the reffing. A good friend of mine lost in the elite semis yesterday on a split. He got a standing count in the last round without getting hit. The kid who beat him had two dodgy counts in his favour in the bout before... A London kid.
