Both fought some mutual foes (in particular, Keith Mullings lost to them back-to-back).

Before they lost to Trinidad and De La Hoya, respectively - how would've their WBC/WBA unification bout went, had they met in 1999-2000?

You'd have to favor Castillejo just because he's got better results on his ledger. This is the type of guy that David Reid could've potentially beaten though.

Reid had the talent to beat Castillejo, but not sure he would have because Javier was tough and could box and punch enough to give Reid trouble. My guess would be Castillejo by SD or close UD

If Castillejo fought Reid at his best before facing Tito Trinidad, Reid would take a decision, but if Castillejo fought Reid from the post-Tito Trinidad fight, then Castillejo would outhustle Reid with good punches to take a decision.

good match up. i think reid ,in his very short peak, would outpoint castillejo in a competitive fight

once reid was broken by tito, javier would be too much. too tough and persistant

Yeah, I actually think Reid is a bit underrated because of his short prime (and a short career, overall).

His wins over Mullings and Boudouani were decent.

And even against Tito - I actually had him widely ahead after the first six rounds. But the physical damage he suffered in that fight kinda clouds his overall performance.
