Any opinion on the first black middleweight champ?

The great Tiger Flowers was one of the most avoided and ducked boxers of the 1920's decade.

A true all-time pound per pound great, top 100 great boxer, beat the crap out of Harry Greb twice. That's how good and great Flowers was. The Georgia Deacon had to fight Light-Heavyweight boxers because at middleweight, he couldn't find opponents. He was a very underrated boxer.

One of the most overrated champions of all time!

He had two split decisions wins against Greb - both hotly debated among ringside reporters. So I don't know where the "beat the crap out of Harry Greb twice" comes from?

Look at the record. The great Tiger Flowers licked Harry Greb twice. How can a man be overrated when the top fighters of his weight class don't want none to do with him?

There was also some question as to if Mickey Walker had actually
defeated Tiger Flowers (especially by Tiger Flowers manger Leo Flynn)to win the Middleweight title.
Walker did floor Flowers tho.
BTW That had been only a ten round title fight.
Walker was going to give Flowers a rematch, but with a year Tiger Flowers had died.

curiously enuff, of his 160 pro fights between 1918 to 1927, Tiger Flowers never did fight in San Francisco.
(The closest he got to a fight there was 400 miles away for a fight in Los Angeles )

yeah, that song always reminds me of going to Shakey's Pizza back in the 1970's.
