My sleazy middle aged Jewish mate Richard Killen who blows big money at the bookies in Leeds on horses all the time but isnt going to check till saturday, which will be too late for me to lay money down. Someone fill me in on the inside track. Don't want any fainting jockeys either you bastards.

A good tactic is, just stick a fiver each way on the 4 biggest favourites. If there is one horse that isn't suited to the conditions in that 4, pick one 33/1 dog who is. Then have a £2 punt on another 33/1 dog who's been consistent over distance/good jumper/tipped as a darkhorse

Calm Royal is a good each way tip.

I do follow the horse a bit in prep form the national, although I am tempted to go for my heart and go one (or both) of the horse trained by Peter Bowen. His stable is about 3 miles from me. My uncle spoke to him the other day and he said one of his horses stood a damn good chance, the other will probably just make the trip round.

Things is..... my Uncle couldn't remember which one - he seemed to think it was the less fancied of the two so I said was it "Swansea Bay" and he said that name doesn't ring a bell - Swansea Bay is the less fancied of the two Peter Bowen horses.

Tony McCoy rode a winner and 3 2nds on Friday so he obviously knows his way round the course.

Thing is the National is a lottery. Some chick who's picked a horse 'because it's got a nice name' always wins sweeps wherever I work.

Anyway, horse racing's fixed anway isn't it. If I ever go I usually look to see what horses have travelled the furthest and back that one e/w...let's face it, you don't drive a horse from Ayr to Brighton (or something like that) unless it's going to do the business do you?

has two horses left in - Take The Stand and Ballycassidy. Take The Stand finished second in the Gold Cup (beat Ballycassidy easily) so if he can take to the big fences he must have a chance. His problem could be his jumping, he fell in the Welsh National and made two bad mistakes at Cheltenham and he won't be able to do that at Liverpool. Ballycassidy was a very good novice but hasn't done much of note this season, can't see him getting round tbh. I know for a fact that the connections of MONTY'S PASS are very confident he'll win again, I doubt he'll do it carrying 11-6 though. If I had to have a bet i'd go for MARCUS DU BERLAIS, he's got a feather weight, solid stayer and jumps well.

Was just about to say that Swansea Bay has pulled out. So it must be Take the Stand who he is saying has a chance. There is a segment on him on the BBC website now also. Perhaps it was wise that Swansea Bay was pulled out, I think he could be a good each way bet in future years.

I like Clan Royal to finish the job this time, his weight isn't at all bad (Surprised me) and of course came close last time out (so can make the trip).

McCoy looked very good first race of the day today. Not too keen on Clan Royal to win though, but is a fair E/W-er

Leftgroove says all. I just don't think he will win, although of course has to be respected on his 2nd last year. Also, avoid Pipe's horses like the plague. He has a bad enough record in the national as it is. But Murphy, his 1st rider, is an absolute prat. Last race yesterday Murphy was riding Celtic Son. Absolutely streets ahead of the rest in terms of class, just bobbing along. All he had to do was jump the last and he'd won. So then Murphy takes the horse like they were about to jump over flying scorpians or something. Absolute idiot. (Not that I'm bitter or anything :x )

I backed clan royal this year because of his success last year. Fucked over by a loose horse.

Clan Royal wouldn't have won. It was a long way out anyway. No horse was beating hedgehunter today. The handicapper actually has something to answer for because I have never seen a grand national winner win so easily. he had tons in hand, should have carried more weight really.
