Undefeated flyweights will meet on DAZN later this summer
Most Valuable Promotions announced today that flyweights Yankiel Rivera and Angelino Cordova will meet for the incredibly superfluous interim WBA title in the main event of an August 23rd card in Orlando.
Rivera (7-0, 3 KO) served as Puerto Rico’s lone boxer at the Tokyo Olympics, falling in the opening round to eventual silver medalist Saken Bibossinov. Cordova (19-0-1, 12 KO) has the stronger professional pedigree, but it’s not quite as shiny in reality as on paper; his 2022 decision over Axel Aragon Vega met significant criticism and he lost a majority decision to Julio Cesar Martinez that was subsequently overturned when “Rey” failed a drug test.
“I remember Angelino from the amateurs, although our paths never crossed,” noted Rivera. “Angelino is an extraordinary fighter who has all my respect. I’m training accordingly, and it’ll be an honor to share the ring with him and fight for that belt.
“You can be sure of one thing, I’ve been preparing for this moment since I first put a pair of gloves. The belt and the opponent I’m facing only fuel my hunger for working hard and win. I hope Angelino is also training at full capacity. We’ll surely bring a great show. But in the end, only one hand will be raised and that hand will be mine.”
Also on tap is a clash of “Takeover” veterans in Jamaine Ortiz (19-2-1, 9 KO) and Steve Claggett (39-8-2, 27 KO), which is a fun bit of sub-elite matchmaking.

Tellez called out Boots before his fight.
Seems like Baraou was a crazy underdog for this fight, for whatever reason.
Time for him to call out Boots.

Fight ruled a majority draw, one judge had it 115-111 Cordova, the other 2 had it 113-113, I had it 114-113 Rivera but it was a brutal watch and murder to score, within seconds I knew it was gonna be a 12 round mess and so it was, mainly due to Cordova's holding, wrestling, spoiling, it was relentless, the ref earned his money, Cordova lost a point in the 6th for headbutts, surprised that was all he got penalized for tbh, he was giving a count in the 4th but looked like Rivera threw him to the canvas
It was just a mess , Rivera was trying to keep it clean but couldn't and tbf to Cordova it nullified Rivera's work, Rivera fought most of the fight with a cut which the doc checked several times, Cordova actually landed some nice combinations now and again but was too intent on spoiling, draw seems fair but I thought Rivera edged it, comms had it wider than me, either way I don't want to see it again, both men spent more time wrestling each other to the ground
