Check out old video of S.Liston.........................What size were the gloves they used in 1958? Were they 8 ounces.........Anyone know for sure? please post....................

I think he used 6oz gloves at the time

Just from what you read on other sites when you google gloves sizes, don’t think there is a specific date as likely differed in certain states or countries but the transition from 6-8 seems to be in the 60s

One report says in 1948 the size went from 6 ounce to 8 ounce.............in 1968 for 154 pounds and up it went to 10 ounces.........

First pro fight I had here in Chicago I came in at 154. Almost positive I wore 8 ounce gloves. I remember thinking “ Man these are tight. I can do some damage. “. Then I realized the other guy was Wearing them too. That was 1983.

N.B.A. states started using 8 ounce gloves in the late 40's but I can't recall if title bouts were exempt.
