Matchroom and DAZN's fall slate kicks off with a card in Sunderland on Sept. 6 which is topped by hometown hero Pat McCormack, who takes on Miguel Parra.

Elsewhere on that bill, teenage sensations Leo Atang, Adam Maca and Tiah Ayton will be in action. All three of them scored stoppage wins on their debuts earlier this summer.

Cameron Vuong returns to the ring for the first time following his March 28 KO victory against Jordan Flynn, and Sandy Ryan is back as she faces Jade Garrison following her second defeat to Mikaela Mayer in the spring.

The card is rounded off by Mark Dickinson vs. Troy Williamson in a North-East derby match-up for the former's English middleweight title.

Small venue for Matchroom. Hopefully they'll come to York soon, ours is roughly the same size as this and our pros will fill it.

parra is a solid gatekeeper to prospects. not particularly exciting match up but could be a good one for pat to get rounds vs a tough seasoned mexicano

get pat in for the euro next. euro champ 32-3 samuel molina is on a decent run and facing 17-0 anas messoudi (beat parra 2 years ago) later today. winner could be sold as a step up with a fancy looking record and a nice title

pat had a zillion am fights and obviously very handy, no need to have tick over fights that dont advance him in some way

Seems to be getting moved at a snails pace. Looks a decent fight, IF he was fighting 4 times a year.

He's in his 30's but there seems zero urgency.

ya pat is capable enough and old enough that they should really go for something much more meaningful next fight. get him out before the end of the year for the euro title, something like that.

He has been fighting like twice a year since he went pro.

They are with Hearns and FW, both real talents, plenty of big shows to put them on, something is amiss here

Pat McCormack is ready to ignite his rise up the rankings in less than two weeks time, when the Olympic hero battles tough Mexican puncher Miguel Parra in his native North East for the WBA Intercontinental Welterweight Championship on Saturday, September 6 – live on DAZN.

The Tokyo 2020 Games Silver Medalist for Team GB headlines in his hometown for the first time as part of a bumper Matchroom Boxing Fight Night at the sold-out, Sunderland Live.

And the undefeated Brit knows that a big, statement performance against Parra – who is on a run of three successive wins since last summer’s split decision defeat in Santa Monica by No.1 ranked Shakhram Giyasov – will go a long way in elevating his name in the World Title picture, where he in currently positioned neatly at No.8.

McCormack said: “I believe people have only seen about 65 per cent of me and I’m only getting better. In my last fight [victory over Robbie Davies Jr in February] I proved I’m better than British level, and a win on September 6 puts me up onto the world stage.

“[Miguel] Parra is tough, game, and he’s been in there with some good people. So, I’ve got an opportunity to make a statement.

Mark Dickinson, meanwhile, makes the inaugural defence of his English Super Middleweight Title when he collides with fellow North East rival Troy Williamson.

Dickinson said: “I’m really excited and confident about this fight. And I think it’s the perfect fight to show how good I really am.”

The popular, former WBO World Champion Sandy Ryan is back on British shores too, taking on the undefeated Jade Grierson, as the Derby fan-favourite launches her quest to rule the Welterweight division once again.

Blyth’s own Cameron Vuong returns for the first time since last March and is just a stone’s throw from his home patch as the highly-rated, unbeaten Lightweight prospect bids to successfully kickstart his partnership under new trainer Ben Davison when he battles Argentina’s Requen Facunda Arce.

And the best teenage talent in British boxing all get set for their second bouts in the professional ranks as Tiah-Mai Ayton, Adam Maca and Heavyweight sensation Leo Atang look to light up a stacked card in Sunderland – which features the pro debut of York Cruiserweight, Brad Casey.

Britain’s Olympic hero Pat McCormack fights Mexican puncher Miguel Parra on Saturday, September 6, and says that fans haven’t yet seen what he is capable of as a pro.

The Tokyo 2020 Games silver medalist headlines in his hometown of Sunderland for the first time next month and is itching to show more of his talents as he progresses through the levels. He knows that a win against Parra, 25-5-1 (17 KOs), will go some way to moving him closer to a shot at a welterweight world title.

“I believe people have only seen about 65 per cent of me and I’m only getting better,” McCormack said. “In my last fight [victory over Robbie Davies Jr in February] I proved I’m better than British level, and a win on September 6 puts me up onto the world stage.

Parra, 32, has won his last three fights since losing against Shakhram Giyasov – by 10-round split decision – in 2024. Thirty-year-old McCormack, meanwhile, is currently unbeaten in seven pro fights – with five wins by stoppage – and is being moved quickly.

Pat has a real air of quality. This is a decent match and Parra is on a 3 fight winning streak so should being in a positive mental state.

They do need to shift gears and make their move if McCormack comes through this one.

Pat McCormack’s fight with Miguel Parra on Saturday is now a final eliminator for the WBA welterweight title.

McCormack is the WBA’s No. 8, while Parra is the No. 12. Rolly Romero is the champion. Shakhram Giyasov - who defeated Parra in July last year - holds the No. 1 position and Eimantas Stanios, Raul Curiel, Ryan Garcia, Conor Benn and Jack Catterall are all placed higher than McCormack, 7-0 (5 KOs).

The highly regarded Brit is coming off an impressive stoppage of veteran Liverpudlian Robbie Davies in February.

The 30-year-old, from Tyne and Wear, is a two-time Olympian who took silver at the 2020 Games.

Originally, McCormak-Parra had been made for the WBA’s Intercontinental title.

Mexico’s Parra is 25-5-1 (17 KOs), and has won his last three since that split decision defeat to Shakhram Giyasov, albeit against limited opposition.

Pat McCormack out to impress against Miguel Parra

Pat McCormack has promised “to win and look good doing it” ahead of his bout with experienced Mexican Miguel Parra.

The Sunderland star, a two-time Olympian, is 7-0 (5 KOs) and tops the bill at Rainton Meadows on Saturday.

The 30-year-old has been left frustrated through inactivity and injury, but is prepared to make his move in a WBA eliminator at welterweight.

“I’m buzzing to be back. I had a good win in my last fight and that’s pushed me right up there and now I’m in a good fight with a world ranked opponent and I’m looking forward to it,” said McCormack.

That win in his last fight came against veteran Liverpudlian Robbie Davies Jnr, whom McCormack halted in six rounds.

“I got back in the gym as soon as a I could and I can’t wait to get back out there on Saturday night,” McCormack added. “He’s a very good fighter, Mexican, knockout puncher, but I believe I’ve got the skills to beat him and look very good on the night. It’s about winning, looking good and that’s all that matters.

At today’s final post-fight presser, the 25-5-1 (17 KOs) Parra said: “I’ve had lots of preparation for this fight, we thought it was going to be 10 rounds, it’s 12 rounds, but I’ve done lots of training. I’m going to enjoy this fight and do the best I can.”

McCormack said he hopes to move on and fight for either the British or European title next, and has been linked to a fight with British campion Conah Walker.

“Everyone’s talking about it, so I think that’s the fight to make,” he said.

Matchroom’s CEO, Frank Smith, said they were keen to make that bout.

“That would be a tremendous fight for Pat McCormack,” said Smith. “But you can look past Miguel Parra and what he brings, and this is the type of fight Pat needs, especially where he’s lacked momentum, because he’s so good if he goes in with people who don’t push him forward, it’s not going to do anything for his career.”

Mark dickinson has come in 5pounds heavy. Never get it when these fights go ahead, clear making weight was never possible.
