Tradionaily anyway at least a third of the purse went to the boxer's manager.

That's what I thought all my life. It's 33% for the guys that don't receive any punches in the face

yeah, Sonny Liston once said to an inter-viewer
that should he ever go to the 'electric chair",
that he wanted his manager to get "one-third" of the juice !

Always thought it was about 1/3 that went to the rest of the team.
The trainer, (which is different from the manager), usually gets the most of that. For a guy making a million in a fight, there are probably going to be others like an assistant trainer, and a cut man.

There are also expenses like a training camp, and sparring partners, Probably more overhead than you would think.

After taxes, a guy who signed for $1,000,000 is probably getting less than $400,000 when all is said and done.

Yeah tax is the main one, unless you signed a slave contract with a manager/promoter. Like....oh I dunno, Don and Carl King for example

Michael Moorer said in a podcast how much he was ripped off as a fighter. The promoter took 25%, manager 33.3% and trainer 10%. Moorer also paid all training expenses, sparring partner fees etc.., travel costs and accommodations for the entire team. Then of course tax on top, think it was 39% tax. So if he earnt $5 million for a fight he wouldn’t be left with anywhere near that afterwards.
