Web Site - Merseyside and Wirral

A new website under development
The Merseyside Former Boxers Association and the Wirral Ex Boxers are setting up their own web site with the aid of the Liverpool John Moores University . It is part of the community service they provide free and full details are at
http://www.icdc.org.uk.
The site will not be confined to details of former boxers but also include information with regard to refs, managers, trainers, promoters and venues within the region. Extensive use will be made of photographs of the people mentioned along with newspaper items and general memorabilia.
Both organisations are fortunate to have extensive archive material available so there is no shortage of information which can be used. However, having said that we would be delighted to have any information, no matter how small, which relates to this topic.
In addition to a history of the formation of both groups we will also be providing an overview of the area in terms of its history which we hope will assist people to more fully understand the development of boxing in the region.
It is also hoped that the site will enable boxers etc who no longer live in the area to contact old friends . A feature which we are hoping to be able to develop is personal stories from the current membership and in the future video biographies online.
If you wish to have any further information regarding this I would be pleased to hear from you.

All the best with this Rob, sounds like a great idea. I'll of course pass on any info or records I come across of the old-time Liverpool fighters.

The web site is now available, it is still has some way to go but there are some items in place which can be looked over.
i would welcome any comments - within reason - on the content etc.
John Shep has our sincere thanks for the data listing he provided of some 463 boxers from the Merseyside and Birkenhead area on the database. Cleary some of these are still acive so will not be used.
Also to Kevin who has provided similar information from his database at britishboxing.net -

Thanks max much appreciated - good to see another local guy.
I am planning on doing some features on local amateur lads in a week or so which you will clearly find of interest. The idea is to give them an opportunity to have some free publicity as well as the clubs.
Some photos and short bio on the clubs and the members is the starting point. Any comments on this are most welcome

Looks like it's starting to take shape Rob. The amateur idea is also a good one. If you like I could provide some info from my old club - I'll ask the present lads if they are interested first of course.
If you wnat any help give me a shout. Also, if you want to use any of the stuff I did for the CBZ (local fighters and others), feel free.

I have the complete listing of contests at the liverpool Stadium from 1934-50 promoted by johnny best. The book is approx 6 inches thick folks.
several 1000's of fights many hundreds not currenty listed. given the sheer volume of material in the 1000 plus pages it will some considerable time before these are available online.
please check in at the site for further information or email me direct for updates etc.
many of the new data items are being made available at britishboxing.net who are able to input the data on there site.
In due course it will be made available on boxrec but i am not in the position to do this at present.
