Ricky Hatton died today. No cause of death was announced.

a big hit, yet in a way im not totally shocked when i think of ricky and the struggles he's had. obviously he was one of a kind, a big loss and someone who wont soon be forgotten

That's an interesting point.
I don't know much about his personal life, but I remember reading that he and his son had a close relationship.

I know that Campbell had lost a close friend a couple of months before. I can't imagine why someone would do that to their family, especially their son, but I probably don't know enough to have a strong opinion on this.

Yes, it's quite true that you cannot see the same things when standing in a completely different place.

I get the impression that Ricky Hatton's parents apparently saw very little - outside of themselves.

And they weren't the only only ones.

The trouble that money can bring and the fights that it inevitably attracts seem to be endless.

Even now, you can bet there will be an almighty battle going on for poor Ricky's estate.

Hopefully it will go to his children.

Ricky Hatton inquest: Death not ruled as suicide

At today’s inquest in Stockport, England, into the death of Ricky Hatton, a coroner ruled that it was unclear whether the former two-weight champion took his own life.

Alison Mutch, senior coroner for South Manchester, did record hanging as the cause of death but suicide was not recorded as the reason.

Hatton, who had significant levels of alcohol in his system at the time of his death (more than twice the UK drink drive limit), was found on a pool table in his home on September 14, 2025. There were no notes, nor any evidence that his death was premeditated.

The post-mortem did identify brain changes consistent with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease caused by repeated head trauma - surely a consequence of his illustrious career in boxing.

Several members from Hatton’s family made statements, all of which documented the former fighter being in a psychologically good place. However, there were admissions of occasional mood swings, confusion and forgetfulness, all common symptoms of CTE. Regardless, his death came as a complete shock to those closest to him.

His son, Campbell Hatton, disclosed details of his father’s troubles in retirement but added that he “was in the best place he’d been in years”.

Jennifer, Hatton’s former partner and mother to his two daughters, reported that Hatton had been in good spirits during a meal they all shared on September 12. He was making plans with his daughters for the future, including going out to see him box for a scheduled comeback in Dubai later in 2025.

Hatton, 45-3 (32 KOs), last fought in 2012 but should be remembered for his wonderful peak years when he became a national treasure in the UK. He defeated Kostya Tszyu in 2005, before he went on to beat Jose Luis Castillo, and then capture the hearts of the world with a stirring effort against Floyd Mayweather in 2007.

It's not as if he just tripped and fell into a noose is it? No need to keep talking about it. There's no explaining it away.

By that logic they muat not consider drunk driving a crime. Since the drunk doesnt know what they are doing

Or a drunk that punches his wife or beats his children. The guy just didn't know what he was doing was wrong. He'd had too much to drink.

Brain damage, alcohol & coke. The worst possible combination and no man is tough enough to survive.

Bad food and an exercise program that was designed for short term growth.
Ricky was a really good fighter, loved to have seen him with someone like Manny or Robert Garcia for some time to level him out and guide him to a pure boxer puncher

I saw him as essentially a less durable, smaller Gene Fullmer type. Mostly a pressure fighter, but could box enough to deal with other sluggers when necessary.

For a puncher he had solid stay in the fight boxing skills
