Both lost in the 1st tier of Don King's round-robin middleweight tournament, in 2001. Holmes lost by UD to Hopkins, Joppy was stopped by Trinidad.
If they would've been matched in the fight for the 3rd and 4th place of the tournament on Hopkins-Trinidad card, who would've won? Both were beltholders at MW. Both have been in some good fights.
