It was Wednesday night of September 21, 1955 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. Undefeated World Heavyweight Champion, Rocky Marciano defended his crown for the last time by knocking out the great Archie Moore, who was the World Light-Heavyweight Champion at 39 years old.
Marciano won by a 9th round knockout. Not before passing through hell with the older and smaller foe Moore who dropped Rocky in the second round.
Moore weighed in at 188lbs. Marciano just a quarter pound heavier.
Moore had over 149 wins. Marciano only had 48 fights.
It was The Brockton Blockbuster's 6th title defense. After the grueling fight, Marciano retires with a record of 49-0, with 43 knockouts and established himself as one of the greatest heavyweight champions in boxing history.
Marciano retired at age 32.
