I never saw anything from Greg Page to suggest he could do anything to defeat Roy Jones Jr. He's not a big puncher, he's fairly fast, decent jab, doesn't keep up a pace well.

I'd favor Jones by Unanimous Decision 8 rounds to 4 or 9 rounds to 3.

Page at his best would be too big and too powerful for Jones to handle unlike the Ruiz fight as Page would jab, move and land good combinations on the outside to take a decision.

Greg Page was supposed to be the next Muhammad Ali.

Wishful thinking for everyone. He was a long, long way off from Ali. Still a decent Heavyweight, but not a great one.

Jones ahead till the halfway point when he gets caught coming in and goes down for the count.

Greg by easy UD or mid to late round stoppage. He had the power to do it.

Page's jab wins this one . Clear decision for Page.

I'm beginning to think everyone who lived through the 1980's is coming down with Alzheimers

The Alphabet Heavyweight Champs of the 1980's are better on this forum than they ever were in real life that's for goddamn sure.

If it's Roy vs Greg at 39 years old, I'd take Greg, but the Roy Jones that fought John Ruiz is better than any Greg Page.

The American boxing media named him Muhammad Ali's successor. He was from Louisville, KY also. And fought just like Ali.

No way mister. We are talking about a very talented heavyweight like Greg Page. That he didn't reach his potential, is another thing. But the guy was a solid heavyweight. He was the Muhammad Ali with Jerri Curls.

Two things would be certain in this fight. 1. Page could take Jones best punch. 2.Jones couldn't take Page's best shot.

Jones ain't Scott LeDoux. Page might not ever land that shot on Jones.

I never saw Page land a lot of devastating shots on a World Class opponent, and any Opponent he ever fought was lesser than Jones in terms of skill and speed.

Page put Coetzee and Tillis down for the count and decked an unbeaten Tyson in sparring (I know it was sparring, but I seriously doubt Roy could do it) He wasn't lacking in boxing skills, just turned in too many uninspired performances. Against Jones he wouldn't have to land much to have the lighter man in serious trouble.

Page was a really, naturally talented Heavyweight and (very brief) Champ.

Very good hand speed, mobility, good combination puncher with good power. Solid chin, too.

RJJ is RJJ but at this weight, out slicking Ruiz was one thing but not sure he takes this one.

I loved RJJ and would always root for him.

What about Page vs Ruiz? Could Greg have beaten John Ruiz? I figure it'd be a sloppy split decision one way or the other if he fought Ruiz.

You must be smoking something. Greg Page at his very best beats John Ruiz every day of the week. And twice on Sunday.

Why? Based on what? I've seen guys draw Page into a sloppy laying on the ropes, trading punches kinda doubt. That's what Ruiz would do, and Page wouldn't be able to stop that.

It'd be a typical Ruiz fight. A sloppy fight where he clinches a lot, and tries to nullify the action. A fight where a lot of the rounds could go either way because there's only 5 to 10 significant punches in the entire round from either man in most cases.

Ruiz was excellent at making people fight his fight.

Ruiz has like 4 or 5 more Championship wins than Page has Championship fights period, and they were both just regular 'ol WBA Champions. Ruiz was a WBA Champion on more than one occasion though, and held his title down for a longer period of time. Much to my chagrin at the time as I always wanted him to lose

John "The Quiet Man" Ruiz would not be at a guy of Greg Page's quality. Page was anointed as the next Muhammad Ali because he possessed the same qualities.

Ruiz was a fighter that made the fight ugly. That's it. He didn't had the speed of Page. He couldn't hit as hard as Page. And definitely wasn't as strong as Page.

Page's problems were drug addictions, women and booze, plus not training like he should. But, at his very best, Page was one of the most talented heavyweights in the 80s decade.

Ain't no way that a guy like Ruiz beats him. No way!

Chris Byrd's style was more like Jimmy Young or Wilfred Benitez or Pernell Whitaker's kind of style. Not Muhammad Ali's.
