Jones's first trip to the heavyweight division actually could've happened 5 years before his fight with Ruiz.
There were negotiations for the fight between Roy and Herbie Hide, that could've taken place in June 1998 in Las Vegas. Hide's WBO title would've been on the line. But the fight fell apart.
How do you think it would've gone, had it happened?

I think Jones could've beaten Herbie, but Herbie was pretty fast for a Heavyweight so he may have been a little tricky.

I think Hide catches Jones and knocks him out.

Riddick Bowe said that Hide hit him harder than anyone. With his speed and power he could beat Jones though his chin was always suspect. The Hide that won the WBO title I think could stop Jones.

Hide by decision or late round stoppage.
