Many would say that Sugar Ray Robinson's most defining bout was against the great Jake LaMotta on the St. Valentine Day's Massacre in 1951 in Chicago.

I think that probably his second bout with the great Gene Fullmer was his best fight. He was the only fighter that put Fullmer to sleep.

Which to you was Robinson's greatest win?

Hard to say since there were so many.
From an athletic standpoint, beating LaMotta when he was only a welterweight and greatly outweighed was more impressive than when he beat LaMotta when they were both middleweights.

Of the 4 choices, I'd say The Turpin win cause SRR was in a do or die situation after he got cut- those were his words. But, based on his entire career, it's impossible for me to choose one bout. I'll say this : his first win over Sammy Angott was spectacular considering that SRR was only a pro for less than 10 months.

That's a good choice. Randy Turpin was giving Sugar Ray Robinson a boxing lesson and the referee was going to stop the fight. He had to regroup and finished the Englishman in the tenth with a ferocious attack. Turpin wilted, and Sugar Ray becomes middleweight King for the second time.

Editor's Note -Robinson was winning the second Turpin fight. However, as mentioned he had a bad cut and the referee probably would have stopped it before it went 15 rounds.

When did Sugar Ray Robinson fought these men?

That St Valentine's Massacre fight with Jake LaMotta was as close as people thought. It wasn't a beating by Sugar Ray Robinson by any means if you look at that fight closely.

But, The Ring Magazine got this fight with LaMotta as the defining fight of Robinson's career. I ain't going to disagree. It was a great contest.

Robinson's second fight with Gene Fullmer should have great consideration. It was a great punch.

Underrated shout. Then went on to beat Zivic 6 months later. For a short time he Robinson was probably the best Lightweight on the planet despite not winning the title before he could no longer make weight.
