Francisco Veron-Roiman Villa headline Nov. 21 card

Roiman Villa and Francisco Veron will headline a scheduled 10-round junior middleweight contest on November 21.

The ProBox show will take place at the War Memorial Auditorium, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Villa got back in the win column earlier this year after back-to-back loses, while Veron impressed with a comprehensive points decision over veteran Vladimir Hernandez on July 12.

In the co-feature promising Mexican welterweight Ruben Aguilar (23-0-1, 20 knockouts) will take on Luis Lopez (16-2-4, 5 KOs).

Meanwhile, Francois Scarboro Jr. (11-0, 8 KOs) and Onyx Sanchez-Medina (8-0-1, 8 KOs) meet in a battle of unbeaten junior lightweights.

At light heavyweight, Dante Benjamin (12-0-1, 9 KOs) will take on one promising Money Powell IV (12-2, 8 KOs) who will be fighting for the first time in just over two years.

Villa (27-3, 25 KOs) won five Venezuelan national titles before turning professional at lightweight in January 2015. After running his record to 19-0, he lost for the first time against Marcos Villasana (SD 12) in Mexico.

The 32-year-old reeled off five wins and grew into a welterweight before impressively beating Janelson Bocachica (UD 8) and then levelled up by taking Rashidi Ellis' unbeaten record in January 2023.

However, the gulf in class proved too much and he was beaten by Jaron Ennis (KO 10) six months later. After 14 months off, he returned and lost to Ricardo Salas (KO 3). He has since returned beating Alexander Duran (TKO 4) on January 17.

Veron (15-1-1, 10 KOs) turned professional in his native Argentina in November 2020. After four wins at home, he fought twice in Mexico and also appeared in Dubai on his way up.

The 26-year-old held the promising Jahi Tucker (D 8) but lost to contender Brandon Adams (UD 10) last August before bouncing back to beat Hernandez.

Roiman Villa Ready To Reinvent Himself At 154 Pounds, As Veron Test Awaits

Former welterweight contender Roiman Villa is ready to put consecutive high-profile defeats behind him and reinvent himself at junior middleweight against Francisco Veron.

Friday night, the pair meet in the ProBox main event at the War Memorial Auditorium, Fort Lauderdale and it's been a trying two-year period for the Venezuelan-born Colombian.

"That period was the toughest moment of my career," Villa told The Ring.

"I'm a brave fighter—I want the best, and I'm not afraid of anyone. That's why I took the fight with [Jaron] Boots [Ennis.] He's an elite fighter and that night, he did his job."

"The public didn’t see the battle I went through before stepping in that ring. The fight [with Ricardo Salas] was originally scheduled for an earlier date, and in trying to make 147 for that first date, my body shut down. I got sick, and afterwards suffered anxiety issues I had never experienced in my career.

"When the fight was rescheduled, I wasn't recovered mentally or physically. That's not an excuse—it's the reality. I stepped in the ring, but wasn’t myself. Those two nights humbled me, but they didn’t break me. I learned from the losses, and still fear no one."

Villa (27-3, 25 KOs) pressed the reset button on his career and scored a fourth-round stoppage win over Alexander Duran in Panama City on January 17.

"I needed to feel that fire again—prove to myself that the warrior in me was still alive," he explained. "It wasn't just about getting a victory; it was about recovering my identity, my rhythm, and confidence.

"Now that I’m back in the win column, my mentality is sharp, and my hunger is bigger than ever. That fight reminded me of who I am—and what I’m capable of doing to anyone who stands in front of me."

With the issues of making welterweight, it’s unsurprising that he's now fighting up at junior middleweight.

"147 was breaking my body," he said. "At 154 I'm done cutting myself down—I'm coming in strong, dangerous, and with bad intentions. I feel reborn at this weight, and anyone in this division who stands in front of me is going to feel the difference."

Having knocked the ring rust off earlier this year, now he’s ready to face Veron, who is coming off an impressive win over seasoned veteran Vladimir Hernandez in July.

This fight should provide answers as to where and what Villa can do at the new weight.

"Verón is a strong and confident opponent, and I respect what he brings, but I'm not intimidated by anyone," he said. "I believe God places the right battles in front of us, and this is one I am fully prepared for. I'm training with discipline, purpose, and conviction, and I know that when I'm focused, I can beat anyone in this division.

"Verón is a solid challenge, but I'm coming to win and to make a statement at 154. This is part of my mission, and I'm ready to show it."

His manager, Alejandro Torres, has guided him since 2018 and despite the defeats has faith his fighter can make waves in boxing.

"Even after the toughest setbacks, he didn't run, he didn’t hide — he stood back up stronger, hungrier, and more determined to become a world champion," he said. "That's what separates the real warriors in this sport.

"We learned from our mistakes — as a fighter and as a team. Those moments forced us to evolve, to mature, and to recommit to the mission. We are grateful to God for giving us the strength, the clarity, and opportunity to write a new chapter. Now at 154, with a renewed mind and a healthier body, we are ready to show everyone who Roiman Villa truly is. This is a new opportunity, and we plan to make it count."

Veron (15-1-1, 10 KOs) turned professional in his native Argentina in November 2020. After four wins at home, he fought twice in Mexico and also appeared in Dubai on his way up.

The 26-year-old held the promising Jahi Tucker to an eight-round draw before losing a 10-round points decision to Brandon Adams before bouncing back in beating Hernandez.

Tsendbaatar Erdenebat vs. Abraham Montoya added to Nov. 21 ProBox show

On about a week’s notice, junior lightweights Tsendbaatar Erdenebat and Abraham Montoya have agreed to face each other on this Friday’s ProBox show after the previous co-feature had to be canceled.

The originally scheduled co-feature was supposed to put welterweight prospect Ruben Aguilar, 23-0-1 (20 KOs), in against Louie Lopez, 16-2-4 (5 KOs). But Lopez suffered an injury, according to a press release.

Erdenebat, 13-0 (6 KOs), is a 29-year-old from Mongolia now fighting out of the Los Angeles region. He competed in the 2016 Olympics, losing in the quarterfinals of the bantamweight tournament to eventual silver medalist Shakur Stevenson. Erdenebat is coming off a unanimous decision win in July against the 14-3-3 Humberto Galindo.

Montoya, 23-6-1 (14 KOs), is a 32-year-old from Mexico. He notched a split decision over Luis Alberto Lopez in 2018; Lopez would go on to capture a featherweight title. As for Montoya, he’s ultimately become a good measuring stick for up-and-comers and prospective contenders. Among those who defeated Montoya were Muhammad Yaqubov, Gabriel Flores Jnr, Andres Cortes, Moussa Gholam and Marc Castro.

Montoya’s last outing was slightly over a year ago, when he took a split decision over Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jnr.

The main event at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, features junior middleweight Francisco Veron, 15-1-1 (10 KOs), against former welterweight contender Roiman Villa, 27-3 (25 KOs).

An interesting headliner. Veron's UD loss to Adams has aged well and the most recent UD over Hernandez is a quality win, while it appears Villa is more suited to 154 than draining himself to make 147.

Francisco Veron steps up, sends Roiman Villa to another loss

Francisco Veron took an important step towards contention in the junior middleweight division, outfighting gatekeeper Roiman Villa on Friday night here at the War Memorial Auditorium.

The scores were 100-89, all for Veron, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, who improved to 16-1-1 (10 KOs). Villa, 27-4 (25 KOs), of Bogota, Colombia, suffered his third loss in four fights, with the other two coming by knockout to Jaron Ennis and Ricardo Salas.

"Everyone in the division has to be prepared because I'm coming. I'm going to come for them," said Veron, who is ranked no. 14 by the WBC.

The 10-round fight headlined a ProBox TV card.

Veron came out aggressive early on, firing away with right hands at the opening bell. Villa showed patience, covering up and waiting out the storm.

"I wanted to catch him cold because I saw that in all of his fights he starts out really slow," said Veron. "When I did that, I saw that he survived that so I said that I’ll just fight my fight."

Villa picked up the activity in the third round, cutting the inside of Veron’s lip with an overhand right along the ropes and landing heavy shots to the ribs. Veron began to take over the fight in the fifth round as a counter right sent Villa into the ropes near the end of the round. Although Villa had shown durability early on, he began to show the effects of the damage in the sixth, when a straight right hand knocked his head back.

With the fight slipping away, Veron made a big statement in the ninth, rocking Villa with a left uppercut followed by a right hand to produce the lone knockdown in the fight.

"I landed that shot and I knew that I had him hurt but in the tenth round I wanted to be cautious. I didn’t want to risk too much when I saw I had the fight won," said Veron.

After the fight, Veron video-called his mother back home to show off the minor WBC belt her won with the fight.

The 27-year-old Veron, who now lives in Fort Lauderdale, is promoted by ProBox TV. He has now won two straight since his lone defeat, a unanimous decision to Brandon Adams in August of 2024.
