Edgar Berlanga and Jose Armando Resendiz are in talks for a super-middleweight fight in the first quarter of 2026, sources told The Ring’s @MikeCoppinger.

Why? If it comes to pass, this fight does nothing to move Resendiz forward after an excellent outing against Plant and basically rewards Berlanga with another undeserved high-profile fight following several dismal performances. I'll ask again, why?

He did beat Plant, who was a former world champion. While Boxrec has him just inside the top 25, the alphabet orgs have him rated fairly high (I admit I haven't checked to see where each one has him ranked), and, overall, I would put him somewhere between 10 and 15. Are there higher profile SMWs out there, certainly. Has Berlanga earned a shot at Rosendiz, certainly not.
