Trinidad and Mitchell both appeared on the same card, on September 29th 2001 at MSG. Trinidad, of course, lost to Hopkins in the main event, in their MW unification.

Whereas Mitchell defeated Manny Siaca by SD in their WBA Super-Middleweight championship, on the undercard of Trinidad-Hopkins.

Both Trinidad and Mitchell were promoted by Don King.

Trinidad would go on to have a homecoming bout against Cherifi in May 2002. Mitchell will be defending his belt in a dramatic shootout vs Julio Cesar Green in July 2002, in Vegas.

What if King would've instead set up a Mitchell-Trinidad SMW title fight in period of May-July 2002 at Mandalay Bay on HBO? Tito moves up and gets a shot at SMW belt.

How do you see it going?

Byron Mitchell is certainly no Hopkins, but I do think 168 would've been a bridge too far for Trinidad, and I'd have to favor Mitchell by UD in this.
