Boxing News to go Monthly

Boxing News is going Monthly as of December 18 which will be the last weekly edition with a January launch for the new magazine.

The magazine bought the formerly terminated Boxing Monthly apparently and will merge the two to a new publication called Boxing News Monthly

Wow! Unexpected - what are people’s thoughts? I can’t find a mention of the price or number of pages though.

I always preferred Boxing Monthly because it would focus on features more than fight reports.

The name sounds weird though, they should 100% keep it as Boxing News with all the heritage, etc.

I’ve just started to read this weeks copy and…..
A bit devastated TBH.
Both magazines had strengths. Initially my thoughts, I will miss the weekly preview and review aspect. This can’t be replicated in a monthly. But I will love these monthly articles aspect.
I never really enjoyed BM reviews. Too outdated. I hope they bring back that vicious book reviewer😁

£10 per month for a magazine that looses it’s weekly relevance aspect???.

Unexpected, but I’m looking forward to see it and buying the first issue.

Important it stays independent and doesn’t side itself with certain promoters, and go down the pan like the ring, and other so called journalists

I see boxing scene, staying independent, has been denied press passes again for the Tottenham card this weekend.

Hopefully they get some great writers on board like Graham Houston and not just some low-cost bozos from the Internet

£11.99 in the shops is a shocker, can't see many paying that for a magazine

I subscribe to a football and a cricket monthly magazine. Shop price 7 each.

I actually think it was pretty predictable.

Most likely will stop print full stop in 2-3 years and just be online.

It's a real shame. I am one of the few people who still like holding a paper in their hand.

Hardly a surprise with the challenges of print these days.

It's crazy to think how much content is in BN every week with such a small team behind it, so hopefully this will allow the team to focus a bit more.

I'll subscribe whatever the price as always keen to support it. It will change my week though as it's been a routine for quite some time.

Sadly it sounds like a death rattle.
That's a heck of a lot of money.

It's a shame - I've bought it every week since 2000 ish.

I buy it for the previews - which presumably will be pointless in the monthlies.
I DO enjoy the other stuff, but won't bother paying for it, like I say - a real shame.

£10/12 a month!!! Wow.

I cannot remember the price of BM at the end of its run, but it surely wouldn't have been near this.

Stopped buying over a year ago. Not missed it…
Thought majority of reports were poorly written, wasn’t even proof read properly…
Had odd good writer but saw a steady decline over a 5 year period, having bought or subscribed for 30 years.
I’d be surprised if it was still in “magazine” format in 5 years time.

Could we see a Turki takeover - often thought about this when he bought the Ring.

I've said before but Rob Tebbutt getting involved killed it. And once Matt left its been going south.

Very very sad.

I have been buying and subscribing for over 10 years and cancelled my sub 2 weeks ago.

Not far off the price of a DAZN subscription

In the ‘In-Store’ price is a bit of a marketing tactic. It’s to make the subscription look more attractive.

Boxing monthly towards the end I think was about £5… or maybe that was boxing news…

boxing news monthly sounds like they couldn’t decide on a title (consultei-consultio anyone? )

Anyway, it’s the last one standing, and I’m definitely gonna be buying it and I’m hoping for the best.

£10-£12 hasnt come up as a solution to making good money, more likely it’s how they will just about stay afloat.

The ring I wouldn’t even pick up to swat a fly with these days, with that little tyrant running it.

Anyway, I’m sure the boxing news staff are reading this, so we should try and be encouraging here, suggestions and whatnot.

I’d suggest articles by Steve Kim, Donald McRae, Bob Mee, Houston. Tris Dixon. Inevitable that Steve Bunce will pop up in there somewhere, even if he’s not invited, he’ll gate crash through the window at some point.

Back page sexiest ring announcer of the month which obviously has to be that mathroom doink with the dreadlocks, every month on a motorbike

The Ring is surprisingly decent, and I've enjoyed the wider lens of it which hopefully the new BNM can replicate.

I often get BN delivered on a Wednesday now, so they must be on a very tight deadline meaning so much had to be pre-sent to the publishers. This looked to have backed them into a huge corner on the Hatton/Crawford weekend when they just didn't have the space and time to deal with both.

I'm guessing it will be the end of the small hall reports (possibly a round up of the best ones?) but should lend itself to more considered analysis. I'm just grateful it will continue in some form.

I buy it most weeks but I do assume it will fold at some point, and when you have weeks when there really isn't any fights of note like there has been recently you do wonder what they have to write about? Monthly makes sense.
