Adam Azim set for Jan. 31 headline fight on BBC Two

Adam Azim is set to headline a London show live on BBC Two on January 31.

The undefeated junior welterweight moved up to No. 8 in The Ring’s rankings after his near-faultless display against Kurt Scoby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 15, which ended in a 12th-round stoppage.

The 23-year-old turned in one of the most complete performances of his career as part of the undercard for Conor Benn’s victory over Chris Eubank Jr. live on DAZN and now the Slough man is set to make his debut on BBC.

According to his promoter Ben Shalom, the founder and CEO of Boxxer, Azim is being lined up to take centre stage in their January show, which is in the works for January 31.

Shalom is hoping to stage a show a month as part of his new deal with the BBC, which kicks off this weekend when Frazer Clarke and Jeamie TKV meet for the vacant British heavyweight title before Callum Simpson and Troy Williamson clash in Leeds in December.

Then he says Azim (14-0, 11 KOs) will get his chance on the platform as he bids to continue his march towards world level.

Shalom told the Ring: “In his next fight, he's going to fight in a headliner on BBC2.

“I believe it will be a huge watershed moment for him. I think he's announced himself on the global scene now and I think the US have seen how talented a fighter he is in his last few fights.

“Now he’s got a big headline event in his toughest test to date on January 31 in London. It’s something that we are putting together now and it will kick off a huge year for him.”

Azim, still just 23, is now ranked in the top 10 with three of the four major sanctioning bodies having won his last five fights inside the distance during a run which included a victory over former world champion Sergey Lipinets and also gleaned the European title at 140 pounds.

Shalom believes his form has marked Azim out alongside heavyweight prodigy Moses Itauma as the two most promising fighters currently operating in Britain.

He added: “For me, I think him and Moses are the most talented Brits coming through. I think both of them are capable of unifying divisions.

“Next year will be massive for him, and that was a massive performance against Scoby particularly after being out for a bit. For us, starting to see him getting the recognition he deserves is great.

“He's going to go on to achieve massive things in the sport.”

Devout Muslim Azim was keen to box before the Holy Month of Ramadan starts on February 17 and Shalom has delivered an adequate date. It will, however, clash with Josh Kelly's world title challenge against IBF junior-middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev, which will be broadcast onDAZN from Newcastle Arena on the same night.

Shalom running with the ball here ( and sticking it to DAZN ) it’s gonna work out nicely if he can hang onto Azim, because he looks the type of fighter you can match ambitiously and entertainingly. He looks a genuine blue chip talent based on his last showing.

Even the dozy bosses at the BBC will notice a chance here to bag a huge amount of asian viewers to get behind this kid.

Britain’s Adam Azim will return on January 31 when he takes on the experienced Gustavo Lemos of Argentina in a 12-round junior welterweight matchup, promoted by Boxxer, at London’s Copper Box Arena.

The 29-year-old Lemos, 30-2 (20 KOs), will represent one of Azim’s sternest tests to date. Though he was knocked out in two rounds by Keyshawn Davis 12 months ago he gave Richardson Hitchins a tough fight, losing a unanimous decision, before that. Since those two defeats, Lemos returned in October to halt Miguel Angel Bolano in six rounds. In 2022 he ended the career of Lee Selby, stopping him in five rounds.

Azim, 14-0 (11 KOs), is eager to secure a world title fight in 2026. This year, he scored a career-best triumph over Sergey Lipinets in February before grinding down Kurt Scoby in November.

Azim is ranked fifth by the IBF, eighth by the WBC and 10th by the WBO at 140lbs.

DAZN airs four events in a week. Boxxer doing four pop-up shows is irrelevant to DAZN.

Another compelling clash has been added to the boxing calendar on Jan. 31.

Junior welterweight contender Adam Azim will take on Gustavo Lemos at Copper Box Arena in London to headline a Boxxer card on BBC Two, it was announced Saturday.

“The Assassin” Azim (14-0, 11 KOs) last fought on Nov. 15 and scored a 12th-round stoppage win against Kurt Scoby. It was another impressive result for the 23-year-old Brit, who’d also knocked out Sergey Lipinets and Ohara Davies in his previous two fights. Azim is The Ring’s No. 8 140-pounder and had been slated since last month for the quick turnaround date.

Lemos (30-2, 20 KOs), a 29-year-old from Argentina, should provide a stiff test. He gave Richardson Hitchins the toughest fight of his career in April 2024 during a unanimous decision defeat that many believed he won.

Lemos leveraged the solid showcase into a fight against Keyshawn Davis seven months later, but he missed the lightweight limit by 6.4 pounds. The lack of preparation carried over into the clash, and he was stopped by Davis in the second round.

Lemos has since gotten back into the win column with a sixth-round stoppage win against Miguel Angel Bolano in Argentina.

Last night was disastrous. One of the best ticket sellers in Britain beaten and all titles gone.

Lemos done in 2 rounds by Keyshawn Johnson.

Really good left, range finder jab and hook to the body among other things is a plus of Azim.

Light Welter definitely has the potential to be Boxings best division next year. If Azim wins he'll have a lot of options.

Light welter is absolutely stacked. Go down to box rec top 20 and you have guys all capable of beating guys in the top 10 - Lamont roach, Jamaine Ortiz, Gary A Russell - quantity of quality fighters.

This is a great fight for your 15th professional fight, i just cant understand why its only his 15th fight. He's been a pro for 5 or 6 years now. Stupidly inactive, fighting twice a year tops. He's been a name for years now but builds up no momentum. Hopefully he'll push on this year but you have to do death row to get a title in this division - especially without a big promoters backing.

Some of these boxers at 140 don't plan on staying at 140
Keyshawn among others is going up, Connor Benn is moving down, both to 147

A lot of boxers that start of with a decent promoter don't fight often as they should.

Instead of taking 5-6 fights a year for smaller change and a possible loss..

they'd just fight twice or 3 times against opponents considered decent.

I know, its getting worse as well and i think it really affects them when they step up. They just haven't been subjected or experienced enough styles and variation or adversity to give them the best chance of being ready for the big challenges.
