Claressa Shields-Franchon Crews-Dezurn rematch ready for February

Claressa Shields is on course for a rematch with Franchon Crews-Dezurn.

It had been reported that she would fight Che Keaneally, but a deal has been struck between Shields and Crews-Dezurn for a fight in February at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Shields, 17-0 (3 KOs), recently re-signed with Salita Promotions. The 30 year old from Flint, Michigan, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and multidivision titleholder – one who most recently capture the undisputed women’s heavyweight crown. She last fought in July, when she defeated Lani Daniels via unanimous decision.

Crews-Dezurn, 10-2 (2 KOs), won her two most recent contests, against Shadasia Green and Citlalli Ortiz.

The 38 year old from Baltimore, Maryland, holds the WBC super-middleweight title. They previously fought in 2017, on the occasion of both of their professional debuts.

Claressa Shields doesn’t believe there’s a woman on earth who can beat her, but even if she found herself standing across the ring from a man, she isn’t convinced she would have too many issues.

The former three-division undisputed beltholder was recently asked to give her opinion on how things would play out if she fought a man. Not only does she have faith in her skills against a no-name male, but she also has a feeling that she can take down a current champion.

“I’ll beat Rolly, and he’s a world champion,” Shields said of Rolly Romero on The Justin Laboy Show. “Listen, I think Rolly is very unorthodox, very strong, but I’m way taller than him, way longer than him, and got better skills. He can’t beat me in a fight.”

Although Shields’ confidence is sky-high, her words weren’t exactly correct. The undisputed women's heavyweight champion is only one inch taller than Romero (17-2, 13 KOs). Also, both have a 68-inch arm reach.

Still, despite the closeness of their physical attributes, Shields (17-0, 3 KOs) took things further, pointing to their weight classes.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist nabbed two wins this year as a heavyweight, beating Danielle Perkins and Lani Daniels on points. She's also set to defend her undisputed throne against Franchon Crews Dezurn on February 22 at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit.

Romero, on the other hand, beat Ryan Garcia for a version of the WBA 147-pound title on May 2. He was later elevated to full champion once Jaron Ennis moved up to junior middleweight.

Considering the massive difference in weight, Shields believes that if they fought, it would play a major factor.

“I walk around at 185, he fights at 147,” Shields said. “It’s hard for somebody smaller to hurt somebody bigger.”

There's no point in even taking Shields' comments about how she could beat any ranked man remotely seriously.

That being said, she will dominate, and beat Crews-Dezurn again. It's kinda funny that after all she's done as a Pro she's still about to run it back against the Woman she made her Pro debut against. Goes to show how slim the field of competition is in Women's Boxing.

Bringing back fights to Detroit is a good idea, she's a good headliner.
I saw her on the Kovalev v Ward 1 undercard, she was good.

Claressa Shields vs. Franchon Crews-Dezurn undercard is set

Claressa Shields versus Franchon Crews-Dezurn now has an undercard set for February 22 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Shields, 17-0 (3 KOs), will fight for the first time in 2026, against Crews-Dezurn, 10-2 (2 KOs), in a bout that rekindles an old rivalry. Shields, a 30-year-old from Flint, Michigan, turned professional in 2016 against Crews-Dezurn. Crews-Dezurn, a 38-year-old from Baltimore, would lose the fight but go on to become a women’s undisputed super middleweight titleholder.

In the co-feature, light heavyweight Atif Oberlton, 14-0 (12 KOs) of Philadelphia, will face Joseph George, 13-1 (8 KOs) of Houston. Oberlton will be fighting for the first time since signing a co-promotional agreement with Salita Promotions.

“I want to stay active, but I also want to fight the right opponents and keep climbing,” Oberlton, 27, said. “My goal is to be a superstar, dominate the division, and show the world who I am. Salita gives me the platform to do that.”

WBA women’s light heavyweight titleholder Che Kenneally, 5-0 (2 KOs), will face Danielle Perkins, 5-1 (2 KOs) of Houston. Kenneally, a 31-year-old from Port Botany, Australia, was originally rumored to face Shields, and the 43-year-old Perkins fought Shields last year. The bout could see the winner as a future opponent for the winner of the main event.

Opening the DAZN broadcast will be WBA women’s interim junior welterweight titleholder Samantha Worthington, 12-0 (7 KOs), of Lexington, Kentucky, facing veteran Edith Soledad Matthysse, 20-16-1 (3 KOs), of Trelew, Chubut, Argentina. Worthington, 30, is promoted by Salita Promotions and Shields’ T-Rex Promotions, and won the title in July with a majority decision win over Victorie Piteau. Matthysse is a 45-year-old former titleholder.

The remaining bouts include heavyweight Pryce Taylor, 10-0 (6 KOs), of Brooklyn, New York, facing James Evans, 9-2-1 (7 KOs) of Toledo, Ohio, in a 10-round bout. Women’s featherweight Savannah Tini, 6-0 (2 KOs), of Shelby Township, Michigan, facing Vaida Masiokaite, 11-29-6 (1 KO), of Panevezys, Lithuania. Junior lightweight Garrett Rice, 2-0 (1 KO), of Dearborn, Michigan, will return a mere 12 days after his last fight. Rice, a 24-year-old from Toledo, defeated Charles Scott Jnr via unanimous decision earlier this month. Middleweight Jaquan McElroy, 4-0 (2 KOs), of Flint, Michigan, will be featured against an opponent to be named at a later date. Welterweight Lance Smith, 5-0 (4 KOs) of Detroit, who trains with LJ Harrison at Super Bad Boxing, will be featured. Women’s bantamweight Jasmine Hampton, 1-0 (1 KO) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, a 14-time national champion, and featherweight Shannel Butler, 6-0 (3 KOs), will also be in action.

Claressa Shields-Franchon Crews-Dezurn II to proceed

– The rematch between undisputed heavyweight champion Claressa Shields and long-time rival Franchon Crews-Dezurn is moving forward for its main event spot on Sunday evening, erasing any concerns that the bout would be canceled due to injuries Crews-Dezurn suffered in a melee at Saturday’s weigh-in.

A source with the promotion confirmed the news to Boxing Scene on Sunday morning.

The concerns arose after a short-but-ugly brawl between the fighters’ camps. After Shields and Crews-Dezurn stepped on the scale in the concourse of Little Caesars Arena, they were called to the center of the stage for the traditional face-off. Crews-Dezurn put her forehead up against Shields’, and the undisputed heavyweight champion shoved Crews-Dezurn away.

After the shove, a security guard jumped onstage and tried to hold Crews-Dezurn back. Crews-Dezurn’s husband, pro boxer Glenn Dezurn, pushed the guard’s hand away from her.

Members of the fighters’ camps then began to jaw at and jostle with each other. Shields had walked away from the stage and was not involved in any of the confrontations that followed her shove. Things seemed to have calmed down onstage. And then a brief melee broke out behind the stage.

Crews-Dezurn pursued – sources told BS that she was trying to get to Glenn Dezurn, who was involved. Video captured by spam shows Crews-Dezurn in an area behind the stage, falling into a table and on to the ground. Glenn Dezurn was soon back with her. The fighting had quickly come to an end. But the damage had apparently been done.

After the weigh-in, Crews-Dezurn was seen speaking privately with her manager, Peter Kahn, who confirmed to BS that Crews-Dezurn had rolled her ankle. A separate source with personal knowledge of the situation told BS that Crews-Dezurn suffered a swollen knee and ankle and planned to see a doctor on Sunday morning before making any decision.

The promotion had a replacement available in case Crews-Dezurn was not able to fight.

I find it odd that people always rated Katie Taylor ahead of Claressa P4P in Women's Boxing. Those 2 aren't in the same league to me.
