I tried to approach this matter from a pragmatic point of view and defend the sport but my answer however is yes, it sucks.

For the most part, yes. There are occasionally guys that will break the mold, and take on the best consistently, but generally guys don't do that as much now.

The only way you could fix that is if these guys didn't make enough money to call their own shots, and if you suddenly strip back what you pay boxers by Millions of Dollars, then Athletes would just find another sport to compete in.

So it's a problem that won't be fixed.

Josh Taylors matchmaking was very decent. Even though i am not a fan of his, got to admire what he accomplished in not that many fights.

Wasn't the combined record of Taylor's 6-7 (don't go there) opponents 190-1 or something mad.

I’ll never say a boxer is scared of another.

But boxing has become more business than sport. So everything is calculated.

One thing I hate is ‘marinating’ fights.

Then of of them end up losing. We see that so much.

Lots of fighters want to protect their undefeated records too much. It wasn't really a thing decades ago, fighters would lose fights and still be able to work up to a title shot. Now fighters often want low risk high reward. It seems to be more of a thing at HW, get them a load of out of shape opponents, build up a knockout reel and undefeated record and hope for a title shot. Thankfully not all fighters do this.

Yeah that sh*t is stupid. Many big fights have been lost altogether in the process of marinating them.

If you want to marinate them, put the 2 guys on the same card once or twice, and then start the Press Tour, and get the show on the road.

As time goes on, people don't get more excited about a fight they want to see, they get less excited about it.

As much money as Mayweather vs Pacquiao made, it almost certainly would've made more in 2011 because the excitement would've been higher from the general public.

Us Die Hard boxing fans are gonna watch it whether it happens too early, happens too late, or whatever the hell the case may be, but The General Public's interest in Boxing is usually fading fast, and only focused on 3 to 4 names in the sport at best.

This is just an example of whats wrong with match making. I really cant see where an up and coming heavyweight's management would make this fight.

I think they should just not sanction anything thats wider than 10-1 over more than 6 rounds...

ok a bit more neuonce than my lil throw away definition. my point is a lot of fights suggested should be refused sanctioning.

okole vs tette should be denied... many many many fights a year should not be sanctioned.

That wouldent make matchmaking good suddenly, but it would take out the absolute trash.

I would honestly just be satisfied if there was just a bit more activity from these guys while they're in their best years. Instead of a guy fighting once or twice a year. How about 3 or 4 times a year? Seems like they'd want guys to be more active in a sport that so heavily relies on your Youth as a factor of what you're capable of.

Of course, it sucks in it. Fighers price themselves out for years. Fights lose the momentum or don't happen at all.

Matchmaking stops boxing from being a household sport instead of a spectacle, which it currently is.
