A lot of 50/60 HWs did ok against 60/70 contenders, think also Liston, Terrell, Cooper(?) Harold Johnson and Moore, how do you think they stack up? Of course, one group is starting to slide while the other side is green, but to me it suggests that at their best they are pretty even, thoughts?

The six you listed in the title were roughly even. It is funny that Bonavena never fought Quarry or Shavers or Bonavena. Folley and Williams never met. Still, all of these guys had a lot of fights against quality competition and had mixed results.

All were fun to watch in their own way.

Is this like a triple tag team?

Machen outpointed Quarry when Jerry was still very green. May have to go with the second group.

I think Williams is the weak link in the 60s group, he never beat anyone at the level of Shavers, Quarry or Bonavena, so I have to give the edge to the 70s.

ranking these guys 1- 6 is a headache inducer.

At their best, Quarry, Bonavena and Shavers had more raw power and fought in a deeper, more dangerous era. Folley Geometry Dash, Machen and Williams were more technically refined, so overall the two groups were pretty even in quality, just different in style.

Here are the two decades, 50's and 60's, I'm not sure there were that many differences. BTW the ratings for the decades are strictly for fights only in that time space;

I have Quarry # 1. I'd argue Shavers is # 6. Machen, Folley, Bonavena and Williams are my 2-5 . But, I wouldn't argue flipping Machen and Folley.

I guess I would go with Quarry as well. Certainly some close calls here. You can cherry pick losses for any of these guys. They were all willing to fight the best out there. Another thing that makes it hard is that they all had fights where their opponent was close but not quite in their prime or themselves were in that situation.

For Earnie Shavers, how much credit you give him for kos of Ellis, Young, and Norton is huge.
