Is Marciano the ultimate example?
Who else would you class as a good example?

The most shining example is Deontay Wilder.
Extremely limited skills but had 10 title defenses.

And an Olympic bronze medal, although back in the ams, he had more of an orthodox style.

funny to me that when he won the belt from Stiverne he boxed and won rounds. Then just slugged it out with everyone since then. Makes no sense

I think he believed in the hype about his power and started disregarding everything else.

Carlos Baldomir seemed awful basic for a guy that won a World Championship

Stiverne was considered a scary puncher at the time. But mainly he was still paying attention to Marc Breland at that point, which he clearly stopped doing later.

Matt Skelton got all the way to a world title shot.

Valuev also. Although his case it wasn’t so much finding a way to win as being massive with an indestructible head.

Always thought Trevor Berbick had a better career than you would think. There really wasn't anything particularly impressive about him. But he had wins over John Tate, Pinklon Thomas, and Greg Page. Actually held his own against a prime Larry Holmes.

Yeah, I always thought he was a just big strong guy who made the most of what little skills he had.

Yes, great example. He's one of the only Southpaws I've ever seen who was a pure slugger. No finesse whatsoever. He had a straight jab, and everything else was a hook or an uppercut.

Vito Antuofermo (?)
perhaps I'm just thinking of his short reach for a middleweight.

That's another good one. He won mainly by sheer tenacity. Little boxing ability and little power.

The Argentinian pair of Ringo Bonavena and Juan Domingo Roldan. Though neither were World Champions, they were both solid contenders for a long time who gave some great fighters difficult evenings, seemingly with very little actual boxing skill, but a lot of strength.

How about Dennis Andries? Very crude guy who somehow managed to win a world title several times over.
