BFI Southbank in London is showing a boxing film season in March/April
Highlight could be Ron Peck's Fighters with live Q and A from Jimmy and Mark Tibbs
It opens with a new doc about Repton called Learning the Ropes with a live Q and A with Darren Barker, Ray Winstone
There's The Boxer with live Q and A with Barry McGuigan
27/7 with Shane Meadows
Willie Pep film called The Featherweight
Rocky, Creed, Raging Bull etc etc also showing

Mate, thanks so much for sharing as didn't know anything about this and love the sound of it.
Absolutely gutted though as think I'm away with work for Learning the Ropes.

It does sound really good, doesn't it and I hope it gets supported.
The films with live Q and As are all on Tuesdays around 6pm which works out well for me as I can leave work a bit early and get down on the train.
I haven't seen Fighters and The Boxer for years and would love to see them on the big screen.

Definitely having some of this as I work not too far away. Fat City is another movie they are showing, will spend a fair bit of time attending this, all being well.

Hey gents,
I watched Fighters when it first came out and it blew me away, so would 100% be up for a mini BoxRec meet-up and going to that screening for sure if you're up for it (and possibly at least a couple of others as well).

Think I may be around for that after all given what's happening in the Middle East right now. If so, would definitely be keen.

The Fighters one really caught my eye so definitely up for meeting with some like minded boxrec souls to watch it.

"Fighters" is very enjoyable. Some excellent parts focussing on the late Bradley Stone.
Keep an eye out for the part where Mark Tibbs was asked if he's been compared to his dad, Jimmy, and gives a funny reaction

Yeah was a shame, but the two lads held it up well. Looking forward to Fighters, not seen it in 30 odd years

I was impressed with Darren Barker. I'm not really a fan of his commentary, but he came across well especially when he talked about how much he wanted to be on the Repton wall.
The director Ryan Pickard clearly made it from the heart. The trip to Belfast stood out but I would have liked to have seen more of Tony Burns. It sounds as though he was too ill and we were lucky to get what we did.
Should add the host did a good job, really knew his stuff.

Thought it was a decent night.
Film was good, Darren and Ryan spoke well, learnt of some other films to watch as well.
Nice venue. Enjoyed my £7.35 lagers :-)

I went to the TwentyFourSeven one last week.
Had a Q and A with Shane Meadows, who actually turned up unlike Ray Winstone for the Repton one.
Was really interesting and for a successful Director, seems a really down to earth guy.

Ahh that sounds great mate, somehow missed that completely - would have loved to have heard Shane Meadows.
Gutted about tonight, but hopefully the guys going to share what it was like, esp the Q&A.

Shame you couldn't make it, what a brilliant night. It was a privilege to be in there really.
I haven't seen Fighters for more than 30 years and I remembered it as being brilliant, and watching it again tonight it was actually even better. For me, it's the best representation of boxing ever made.
Mark and Jimmy Tibbs were on great form. They only had time for two questions as they gave very long answers and covered a lot of ground.
George Visioli was talked about as a star of the future, and there was very good words on BJS...his talent and his undoing against 'that Mexican fella'.
Ive only been to the opener of this season and tonight and thoroughly enjoyed both nights, but tonight really was something special.

Thanks for sharing this mate and really happy for you - Fighters had a similar impact on me at the time, hence being so keen to see it again, especially in this context.
I hope they're right about Visioli - went to the Copperbox show recently specifically to see him, but while he's clearly special, I was hoping for me. Could just be fighting to the level of his opponents right now though, as I remember seeing Froch at the York Hall against Brian Magee (20 years ago.. gulp!), and never envisaged him going on to achieve what he did.
