Vitali has a severe back injury. He isn´t even able to fly to Germany for Wladis fight on Saturday. There will be a surgery on Wednesday in LA. There will be no boxing this year...........

The more this happens and he fights less the more chance people will have a different No 1. He is supposed to be back in September

Looking at the rankings - Rahman vs Maskaev II for the interim title is a viable option.

Both in the top 5 with the WBC, Toney has signed to fight Ruiz and Monte Barrett might get a chance with Byrd (as he is the IBF #1 contendor).

If Klitchsko is out for a year, then surely an interim title has got to be created. This is what they were originally designed for.

i would love to watch Sinan Samil Sam vs Rahman for the interim title. Sam is #4 at the WBC.

Buggery. This is a completely seperate injury from the one that caused the first cancellation is it?

Might be a decent fight that. Would favour Rahman as I think he has the better jab and all around skills.

It would be KO victory either way

Sam would get beaten easily by Rahman. Sam's defense would simply not be good enough against Rahman who would have the power to really punish him and Sam's conditioning would also be questionable because against Clay Bey as he was really huffing at the end. There is a big difference barely beating guys like Clay Bey and taking on top tier guys like Rahman.

Rahman is the all-around better boxer but Sam is also able to knock him out.

I wouldnt be too sure about that Sam doesnt exactly have KO power

I think sam would have a good chance vs rahman, believe it or not. Sam is a walking (shuffling) nightmare for any non movers. rahman would just stand in front of him all night, and isn't nearly busy enough to outwurk the Turk. i don't see sam concerned by Rahman's power either, whereas sam may be capable of hurting the rock.

There is shuffling and there is shuffling though, Riddick. Rahman showed some boxing capabilities in the Tua rematch - he didn't just stand infront of him he used his jab and didn't give Tua much chance to work inside.

Both were frankly awful that night and I'm not saying Rahman has Muhammad Ali esque back foot boxing skills, however you don't have to be Ali to outbox Sam these days - Lawrence Clay-Bey did for long periods of his last fight. Rahman is a good a back foot boxer as Clay-Bey.

I was really disapointed with Sam against Clay Bey and thought he only won by 2 rounds and if he couldnt outwork Clay Bey who is about 20 pounds overweight I cant see him outworking Rahman who is seems really motivated now having dropped all that weight and done a real job on Meehan

I think that Sam didn´t take this Clay-Bey-fight that serious. He had some pounds more on the ribs than in the Bakhtov-fight where he was better trained than ever. If he would be in this condition again he could give Rahman a tough fight.

Bring on this fight, I would watch it, it would be a megaseller over here.

Question is, why didn't Sam take it seriously in that case? I mean, Ok Rahman let himself go a bit, but he was in terrific shape for his two contests with Lewis. I just don't see Sam going any further than he has already at this stage of his career.

Yes and if you saw Rahman against Meehan he was about 20 pounds down from when he looked so poor against Ruiz. So he has got his desire back.

In some german newspapers they talk about the end of Vitali, a bit negative..... I am sure he will be back, maybe next year.....I hope the WBC gives Sam a chance for an eliminator or interim title fight.

BBC Radio 5 have been reporting all day that it's Rahman that pulled out with a back injury?

Saying that the Beeb site says it was Klit so must be the news reporter, I heard it at least 3 times.

Yeap, I definitely didn't hear it wrong because I just heard Johnathan Pearce say it again, "Rahman requries back surgery".

Not doubting that it's Vitali at all, just pointing out it's a bit sad that a national radio station can mis-report something to that extent.

A "procedure" to correct "something to do with his back that is causing a problem with a nerve in his leg." (from BBC/ESPN) could this have been a long term thing? Not really I suppose.

Anyone now the "procedure" to do with the WBC, injuries to champs, interim titles and all that stuff? I suppose they would give Klitchko 'till September (one possible comeback date mentioned) but I don't think that would be long enough

Surely the WBC won't hang around and get someone in asap as interim champ to get some sanctioning fees. Who's signed up with Don King! Sam-Kasniqi would be nice for the vacant title though...
