Seen nothing but lovely tributes, quite a guy clearly. RIP.

Everything that’s been written in the press is absolutely correct.

I am proud to have called him a friend since the late 90s and he was an amazing man.

Good enough to win the ABAs and represent England whilst also playing semi professional football at the same time.

He always had a huge smile and was always joking and laughing.

He loved to help others and is responsible for giving a lot of East London boxers a start in the game.. Anthony Yarde and Ohara Davies to name two.

His generosity extended beyond boxing and he did a lot of work in his community.

Before his illness he still looked in his 30s despite being in his 50s, a testament to his lifestyle.

He will be sorely missed. Rest easy Top Cat.

Cesay was a quality amateur boxer. His 4 round bout with David Walker was superb. Hard fought, but both displayed great sportsmanship.

Boxrec has done a pretty poor job of collecting his record. I saw him box quite a lot on the bbc back in the late 90s and early 2000s and the best you guys can do is 3-7. He must’ve had up to 100 fights. I’ll probably find his name in all my old British boxing board of control record books. I might compile his record from there.

It was Tony’s funeral today.

A beautiful celebration of his life with his friends and family and of course many British boxing faces were in attendance to pay their respect.

I think it’s only worth going pro if you’re gonna make money. A lot of it. I might suggest Cesay knew the realities of the pro game -training hard whilst having a job then running around selling tickets for a small purse. Unless you’re extremely talented or sell a lot of tickets the pro game doesn’t give much back. I totally respect Tony’s decision to not go pro. The pro game is ruthless and unforgiving. If you talk to a lot of pros they say the best times were amateur, on a team, on an away trip etc Pro game you’re basically a commodity

true, the amount of boxers that end up with serious money from the sport are a tiny percent of those who actually pursue it, even just looking at guys with national level amateur achieveiments or higher.

boxing very top heavy where the absolute peak earners can make loads but after that it can get pretty dry. tbh tony probably pretty smart
