Daniel Dubois vs. Moses Itauma - Who wins?

Moses Itauma is on the horizon for victorious Daniel Dubois

allegedly has revealed that a fight with Moses Itauma could follow for Daniel Dubois if there isn’t a rematch with Fabio Wardley.

Dubois on Saturday at the Co-op Live stopped Wardley in 11 entertaining rounds to win the WBO heavyweight title, and the dramatic nature of their contest means that a rematch is widely expected to be next.

Warren confirmed, post-fight, that a rematch clause exists for the defeated Wardley, 31. The promising Itauma was ringside in Manchester and will next fight at London’s O2 Arena on August 8. The 21 year old is ranked first with the WBO and could therefore ensure that Dubois goes from one all-English heavyweight contest to another.

“There’s a rematch clause so we’ll see what happens,” the promoter said. “We’ll see what pans out in the next few months with all these various heavyweight fights that are happening. That’ll determine what’s gonna happen.

“It may well be [Itauma] but there’s lots of different fights and permutations. We’re not gonna definitely do it tonight, that’s for sure, so let Daniel go away and enjoy himself. As I say, there’s a rematch clause in the contract.

“It’s a huge fight. They’re all huge fights. All these heavyweight fights are huge fights, aren’t they? Agit [Kabayel] in Germany; Moses a few months ago. The heavyweight division is so good at the moment; there’s so many good fights, and we are delivering them, and the guys wanna sign each other. That’s why they’re signing up for Queensberry, to help us make the fights happen.”

On May 23 the IBF, WBA and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk fights the kickboxer-turned-boxer Rico Verhoeven. Anthony Joshua fights the little known Kristian Prenga on July 25; Tyson Fury is also expected to fight before being matched with Joshua later in 2026.

“He gets amazing credit,” Warren said of Wardley. “He’s a warrior. He showed that. That’s what he is. I’ve got nothing but the utmost respect for him and he’ll come again ‘cause he’s that type of guy. You’ve seen the heart he’s got – and so did Daniel, who’s been in a load of tough fights.

“He’s not had an easy fight. He’s fought two fights with Usyk, and before that five or six guys all top-10 ranked, and he was an underdog in every single fight.

“[Wardley] was getting stitched up – his nose and his eyes, and I couldn’t speak to him because the doctor was attending to him. I think he’s going for a check up at the hospital.

“It was [Dubois’] heart, and it’s the same with Fabio – that’s what kept him going. Their heart. It’s phenomenal what they did.”

Before Wardley and the 28-year-old Dubois made their way to the ring in Manchester, Zak Chelli, also of England, unexpectedly and dramatically stopped Cuba’s highly-rated David Morrell in the 10th of 10 rounds.

“That’s probably the biggest upset I’ve seen in a fight since Amir Khan getting beat by Breidis Prescott,” explained Warren. "You’ve got to take your hat off to him. You look at the fight [Morrell] had with [David] Benavidez; it’s unbelievable what he did. He’s launched himself into a good position.

“This is the best fight card I’ve done. That’s how good it was.”

Hard to imagine ddd surviving those looping rights….

But at the same time… can Moses even take ddds jab? Let alone the right hand. I have no reason to believe Moses isn’t sturdy, but has he taken a single punch from anyone that can whack? It’s all fun when you can just ping away, but Mabey ddd jabs him once and suddenly his agressive style and flurries don’t feel as fun.

I think Moses speed overwhelms ddd, but would I be shocked if ddd got it done? Not really. DDD at least knows when to grab (or tackle) and when to take a knee… things you probably need to know vs Moses.

Cracking fight but I think Moses needs to fill another gap befor ddd. Gassieve probably.

Wardley doesn't need to have another fight this year.

I have no idea what Usyk's plans are after Rico but I'd like to see Dubois v Kabayel.

Moses v Torrez (if he gets past Sanchez)

Fury v AJ.

There's not really much else, is there?

Unless Moses or Torrez are champion that fight will not happen. It will marinate for some time.

You're right.

I'm just wishing.

I just don't want to see Usyk v AJ, Fury or DDD again

Derek Chisora predicts Dubois vs Moses Itauma after Wardley KO: “He’s the favourite right now”

Derek Chisora has shared his thoughts on a potential fight between Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma after ‘Triple D’ claimed a sensational world title win on Saturday.

Dubois had to twice pick himself up off the canvas before earning the round 11 stoppage at the Co-Op Live in Manchester to hand Fabio Wardley a first career defeat, following a brutal Fight of the Year candidate that will live long in the memory of British fight fans.

Despite the arduous nature of Dubois’ win, there is already talk of who his first defence may come against, with 21-year-old phenomenon Moses Itauma being linked, due to the expectation that he will soon be named as the WBO’s mandatory challenger.

Itauma is expected to first fight on August 8 at the O2 Arena, before a US debut at the end of the year, meaning any Dubois vs Itauma showdown would likely take place next year, or even be built up further into the future.

Despite the momentum and hype around the youngster, Chisora told Seconds Out that he would make Dubois the favourite in that fight as things stand, clearly impressed by his performance in Manchester.

“Right now, with the odds, the favourite is Daniel, he is the world champion. So, I think Daniel [will win], but we know Itauma and how he is.”

Alternatively, Itauma may seek to pursue a different route towards world champion status, depending on whether Oleksandr Usyk decides to defend or vacate his titles.

WBO MAY ORDER DUBOIS-ITAUMA DESPITE WARDLEY REMATCH CLAUSE

Daniel Dubois might be forced to choose between Fabio Wardley and Moses Itauma for his next fight.

Just a few days after getting stopped by Dubois in the 11th round for his WBO heavyweight title at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, Wardley activated his rematch clause.

However, the WBO have hinted to The Ring they may yet order Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs) to defend against No. 1-ranked Itauma.

“Bear in mind that rematches are not binding to the WBO,” President Gustavo Olivieri said. “Itauma is the mandatory. We will see how it plays out.”

The 21-year-old from Kent, England solidified himself as a bona fide contender with his first-round stoppage win over former WBC interim champion, Dillian Whyte, last August. Itauma then followed up that victory with a fifth-round KO against Jermaine Franklin in March.

Itauma, according to his promoter allegedly, will return for his second fight of the year on August 8. An official opponent hasn’t been revealed just yet, but Filip Hrgovic has been mooted as a potential counterpart.

If the WBO allows Wardley vs. Dubois II, and Wardley wins, Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs) could be the one left without a dance partner. Prior to his defeat, Wardley stated on numerous occasions that a fight with Itauma is an "impossibility" as they share the same trainer, Ben Davison.
