Derek Chisora: British boxer says he's been given 'green light' by wife for Deontay Wilder rematch later in 2026

Derek Chisora lost on points to Deontay Wilder last month in their heavyweight clash; Chisora confirmed he has no plans to retire and suggested he will fight Wilder again later this year.

Derek Chisora has revealed his wife has given him the "green light" to have a rematch with Deontay Wilder.

Wilder beat Chisora by split decision in an enthralling fight last month and had previously said he would retire after that bout, which was the 50th of his professional career.

However, the 42-year-old is in talks over a second fight with Wilder for later this year.

"I'm working on the rematch. The wife has given me the green light, so I will be doing the rematch," he told Sky Sports News.

"I haven't confirmed it yet. I have a couple meetings tomorrow [on Wednesday} and we will see how that goes.

"He [Wilder] is keen because he's upset with the result as well. Yes he might have won but he's upset, so we are going to run it back."

Asked if he would have another fight after a potential rematch, Chisora added: "That's it. [At the] end of this year I will retire."

So he wants ONE MORE fight, and then retire..

Why? It was a decent fight but was pretty conclusive. Wilder won clearly, and that's with the ref on Chisoras side

Yes - Chisora should have taken his lofty world ranking based on Otto Wallin's even loftier world ranking and got some kind of world title fight - whether that was Wardley or Gassiev and then set of into the sunset.

If I was Wilder I'd definitely take a rematch with Chisora. There ain't a lot of guys around at this point that Wilder is likely to defeat, but Chisora is one of 'em.

They are good friends, I’m sure they’ve discussed it as easy money and just a pure money grab a bit like Fury giving him a pointless third fight.

I'd be surprised if many people would turn up to that fight. The first had some excitement but was very low quality. I think anyone that buys a ticket deserved to be ripped off

Both looked old. Both gave it everything, too.

Chisora grumbled about the decision afterwards, even though the one score out of three that went his way looked generous. Wilder wasn’t happy, either, after some questionable officiating throughout the bout, coupled with that judge who somehow scored for Chisora, left a bad taste in his mouth.

But the controversy didn’t linger for long. It seemed like finished business, for both the rivalry and Chisora’s long and punishing 36-14 (23 KOs) career.

But Tuesday, when talking to Sky Sports, Chisora revealed he’s in the early stages of trying to arrange a rematch with the 40-year-old former WBC beltholder.

“I’m working on the rematch,” Chisora said. “The wife has given me the green light so I will be doing the rematch.

“I haven’t confirmed it yet. I have a couple of meetings [on Wednesday] and we will see how it goes.

“[Wilder] is keen because he’s so upset with the result as well. Yes, he might have won, but he’s upset so we are going to run it back.”

Should Chisora, a veteran of 348 professional rounds, get his wish he has, of course, made a new promise to at last walk away afterwards.

“That’s it,” he said. “End of the year I will retire.”

Always admire the fighters who are able to retire early even with more miles on the clock and lots of big money fight offers on the table.

I remember him clarifying once that he beat up his girlfriend, not his wife.

But Boxing finance is a mysterious beast.

If you took chisora vs wilder, Whyte, Zhang, Moses or ddd

…. I litraly could not tell you which one pays more… chisoras purse for any one of those fights could be anywhere between 1 and 10 million and I wouldent have a clue where in that 9 million dollar zone each lies…

As someone who hasn’t even watched highlights of the first fight, it’s safe to say my interest in a rematch is less than nought.

But I’m still expecting them to make a big enough event out of this, somehow.
