Tate by decision after outboxing Quarry behind his long left jabs, right hands and combinations. However, if Tate cuts Quarry's eyes, then he would stop him for a TKO win in 8 rounds.

The only way Jerry Quarry wins this fight is if Big John Tate gasses out in the last round like he did with Mike Weaver. In other words, a lucky punch.

I figure it's a fairly competitive fight, with Tate having a lead on the cards after 8 or 9 rounds. As he slows down, and begins to stand and trade with Quarry more, he loses the exchanges late in the fight to the tougher, harder hitting Quarry, and eventually either gets knocked out or loses enough momentum to have blown his lead on the cards to lose a close decision.
