Possible Bank job for WBO super middleweight champion Hamzah Sheeraz

WBO super middleweight champion Hamzah Sheeraz is set to be ordered to defend his title against his mandatory challenger, Boxing Scene has learned.

Sheeraz, 23-0-1 (19 KOs), claimed the vacant WBO strap with a third-round stoppage against the overmatched Alem Begic in May on the Egypt bill topped by Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight bout with Rico Verhoeven. Sheeraz made light work of Begic, hardly getting out of first gear in the win, and due to that a quick turnaround was on the cards. BS reported earlier this month that Sheeraz was in play to feature on the undercard of Anthony Joshua-Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Boxing Scene has now learned that Sheeraz will be ordered to defend his title against his mandatory challenger in the next two weeks. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez currently sits in pole position with the WBO, but with a September 12 date already booked in with WBC titleholder Christian Mbilli, it is likely he will decline. The No. 2 ranked contender with the WBO is Jacob Bank, who, if available, will likely be next in line to fight Sheeraz for the belt.

Bank, 19-0 (11 KOs) and from Denmark, is contracted to Spencer Brown of Gold Star Promotions, who also manages Sheeraz.

Bank will definitely provide more of a challenge than Begic did, but does he have enough to topple Sheeraz? My initial reaction is: no.

Denmark, like South Korea, used to have a load of decent fighters, but it phased out after Kessler.

It would be nice for them to have a resurgence.

Sheeraz wins on points though.

They seem to be having one. My friend is the MC on their shows so I see all his stuff, including Bank. He has a following there.

I hope so, Mickey. Good set of fans.

They had shitload of shows back in the 90's & 00's so it would be nice for them to stage a comeback.
