just got this off boxing news

unbeaten super middleweight Carl Froch (15-0, 12 KOs) scored an impressive eight round stoppage of WBC #11 Henry Porras (29-5-1, 21 KOs). Both fighters traded punches throughout, but by round five, Froch's superior firepower allowed him to take charge. The bout was stopped in round eight which Porras' corner throwing in the towel as their fighter was being pounded on the ropes. Time was :56. The card was promoted by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

That's a very decent win.

It seems like he is doing things the old fashioned way by going over to the States. Many could learn from him

He needs to get a move on though, no? He is mid/late 20's and I am not sure his style has longevity

Actually, no.

He was not on the ropes at all when the corner threw in the towel.

And Froch was almost in the middle of the ring when the towel was thrown.

He took a bad beating in the middle of the ring at the end of the previous round, Froch kept on walking past him(literally), firing a shot or two, and turning to the ref to stop the fight.

What did you think of Froch?

I only saw it from the fifth round on...

He wasn't bad... His defense was a bit sloppy, and his legwork wasn't too great... He''ll attract attention though, the way he fights.

Good win for Froch, also i read that he's been conducting interviews in Spainish as well, so he should attract the Hispanic fans as well.

Sounds like Frochy all over - you must be a good judge. :TU:

Well done to The Cobra though - at a different stage in his career of course but a refreshing change from Calzaghe's disastrous last couple of years.

Some reaction and quotes from the Hennessy camp (English, not Spanish :o ) over at http://www.britishboxing.net

Good win and a very good move overall. Froch may be a bit of a mouthy tart but at least he's doing something in the ring as well, unlike sicknote.

I wonder if Froch will go for the EBU belt next ???

Frochy seems to be developing the habit of just trying to walk though people, out punch people by the sound of things.... surely when he fights someone who can match him for power and who holds a shot things are gonna get interesting.....

well done thought to Carl.... he has got an annoying mouth but he is backing it up so far :TU:

Excellent result for Froch, although he shouldn't have been in any danger of losing to Porras, as he'd never beaten anyone of note, he was a stayer who had been in with some class operators and gone the distance. As you say Ian, different stages of their careers, but Froch does seem to be on the fast track. I can see him getting a title shot soon if he has a couple more big performances like that stateside.

Can Froch speak Spanish?

That will create very good publicity, the intelligent boxer story always creates a certain amount of intrigue/attention. Especially, if he can speak Spanish.

Good win, don't think it was ever a doubt despite what Froch was saying about Porras being world class, he isn't and never will be world class.

Yes, Porras is a 'stayer' someone who although not world class, can live in world class without being battered. Still, Froch I think is the first to do a number like that on him.

does he need too??

i know the ebu title would get him in to the WBC top 10,but a couple of quility fights in the US and he'll be there anyway

He's said all along that he wanted to do it that way, so I reckon he probably will. I know Froch rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, and yes, he has a big gob, but in many respects I think he's a breath of fresh air.

I think he beats Beyer if he fought him now.

I think your right. Before the Porras fight Froch was only #11 in the ebu rankings. Magee may give him a shot if he were to beat Tsypko but otherwise he'd need a couple more fights anyway, and if he stays in the US and has 2 or 3 more fights against Porras-types or above then he'll be fairly high up the rankings without the ebu.

Would Brewer be too big a step? Big name, looks a bit dodgy after losing his last 2. And if Froch stopped him, he could brag about doing more than sicknote did to him. Just thinking aloud.

Oooo, that's a bold statement. I think he has the power to put Beyer, or pretty much anyone on their arse, but I'm not sure he's seasoned enough for Beyer yet. However, you'd give him a shot.

Does he not have to fight Barney sometime as well, for the British & or Commonwealth?

unlikely.. if they fought 20 times froch may catch him with the shot to finish it once.... the other 19 times Beyer would move and pick him apart for a points win... we have never seen Froch whacked by a good puncher either and Beyer can hurt you to head and body

Brewer would be too small of a step. He just lost to lolenga mock, he's totally shot the fight would prove nothing.

I could see Froch beating beyer, yeah. Green had had about the same number of fights and brutalised beyer in their 1st fight. Froch I feel has the discipline to last down the stretch. Beyer is a decent fighter but has limitations and is hardly a champion, he's beatable.

Froch would beat up Brewer and it would be pretty one sided i would imagine..... he can still whack though

I think Salem wouldn't be a bad fight for Froch next.

Another good one, although possibly too big a step is Byron Mitchell. Actually, no I don't think Mitchell is too big a step - I mean most people here were tipping Froch to beat Magee, I think Mitchell and Magee are around the same level.

I don't rate Beyer at all and struggle to believe how well he has done.

I saw the Thysse fight and he was very average. Not sure how he was given such a wide points win (although the fight was in Germany so perhaps that explains it.)
