Question: How does the rankings change after Hrgovic stopped Itauma in the 9th round, to become the new IOBF world heavyweight champion?

Simple format as always.

Hrgovic to #4
Itauma to #14

ps. If anyone is voting Moses out, please state who you would like to enter the rankings. FYI, Riakhporhe was the last boxer to be bumped out.

Hrgovic to #6
Itauma to #12

As impressive of a win it was for Hrgovic based on the eye test, Itauma was untested on paper. The win will probably age better when Itauma picks up better wins. Whereas, others in the top 5 have beaten tested opponents with decent wins.

Itauma drops a position because Wilder beating old man Chisora a few months ago is better than Itauma beating Jermaine Franklin.

My current rankings:
1. Usyk
2. Dubois
3. Wardley
4. Kabayel
5. Parker
6. Sanchez
7. Hrgovic
8. Wilder
9. Ajagba
10. Riakporhe
11. Huni
12. Torrez
13. Fury
14. Itauma
15. Miller

Hrgovic to #5
Itauma OUT
Parker OUT
Rico OUT
Miller IN
Sirenko IN
Chisora IN

Oleksandr Usyk
Daniel Dubois
Agit Kabayel
Fabio Wardley
Filip Hrgovic
Frank Sanchez
Efe Ajagba
Tyson Fury
Jarrell Miller
Murat Gassiev
Justis Huni
Deontay Wilder
Artem Suslenkov
Derek Chisora
Anthony Joshua

Parker OUT: served a ban stemming from the Wardley fight. That alone is enough for me to remove him until he earns his way back in

Itauma OUT: had no proven top-level win before Hrgovic and was stopped in his first fight against an established contender

Rico OUT: 1-1 as a professional boxer. Looking respectable in a loss to Usyk is not a top-15 resume

Miller IN: fresh 2026 win over previously unbeaten Lenier Pero

Suslenkov IN: stopped Joyce in July 2026

Chisora IN: beat Wallin in 2025 and then lost a close split decision to Wilder in 2026

Hrgovic only has 3/4 notable fights, because he was avoided throughout his career. Strong contender with lack of marketability. So his only path to a championship was the IBF, the only org that will really enforce mandatories.

His only loss was to Dubois. And he won 4 out of 7 rounds on the scorecards before the doctor stopped it because of a cut DDD gave him with a headbutt. After that Dubois got promoted from interim to full champion, lost to Usyk and became champion again afterwards. So his only loss was controversial und aged well.

His war with Zhang was his biggest win and aged good aswell, with Zhang becoming interim champ afterwards.

This Itauma win will age well for shure. Only Joyce was already washed when he faced him.

Filip was always underrated from lack of notable fights. But I would always keep him on a similar rank as Dubois and Parker. Yesterday he proved that and now with a belt around his waist, there is finally a motivation for other contenders and champions to fight him.

I would think many, many people will be interested in fighting him. He and Gassiev would probably be most Contenders preference as far as getting a title shot at the moment.

I feel like Guido Vianello and Moses Jolly are hovering somewhere inside the Top 20, but not the Top 15. A good win for either man next time out could see them come into the rankings, but the Draw leaves them both on the outside looking in.

jolly top 20 already just based on that draw? with no other remotely meaningful wins on his record? i dunno man, guido is solid but guys like kinglsey ibeh and johnny rice beat or drew with him already too, i wouldnt say they are near being top 20 themselves for it

The problem is, try giving us those who have earned being 15-20. Vianello beat Makhmudov. Not many others have managed that, even if Makhmudov isn't that good. There are just not many guys outside the top 10 with s good with whereas guys outside the top 15 barely have a recognisable win. Might be premature to rank them there but nobody deserves it so it's difficult to dismiss them at the same time

never mind the top 15-20, i might not even rate jolly in the top 50 - though boxrec currently having him #153 might be lower than I'd go. drawing with vianello isnt that special, kingsley ibeh did it and johnny rice actually beat him. vianello has had these lackluster performances vs underwhelming opponents several times now

and if we look at who he's actually beaten, a close decision over will howe is probably his jollys best win. is howe even top 300? as weak as the division is, its not so bad that this is warranting a top 15-20 ranking

Vianello - Jolly was a fun clash of styles, but it was a pretty bad performance from Vianello.

A draw was appropriate, but it was even a bit fortuitous for Jolly who brought a lot of pressure but didn't actually land much.

Vianello looked like a top 50 guy - maybe - off that performance.

Btw, does Vianello speak English at a high level? He seemed a bit confused/frustrated by how much the referee was getting involved but only with verbal commands and idiosyncratic gestures

Agreed

And agreed.

I actually picked Hrgovic to win by KO, as I thought his chin would allow him to take Itauma into deep waters. Plus the added motivation of it being a world title made him a dark horse for this one. I was not confident about the appointment of Howard Foster, though (who hats off had a solid refereeing performance)

BUT I didn't expect large portions of the fight to be so one sided. Moses actually really impressed me to that degree, but its no good if you are only a 6 round fighter. He really needs to sort out his pacing and stamina. His corner really needs to be able to tell him well in advance to slow it down. Throwing bombs (in high volume) until you drop is not any kind of strategy. Even so, there are few in our top 15 that I would feel confident have the physical attributes to weather the storm like Hrgovic did.

Hrgovic #4 (just behind Dubois)
Was delighted for him. Even though I'm a Brit, I leapt out my chair when he won.

Moses #11
Honestly, I think he justified top 10, but at the end of the day, he lost.

Hrg to 4, Moses out.

I almost want to put Hrg higher because I truly think the Moses win is better than anything kabayal has ever done. But I can’t bring myself to put him above DDD who beat him (although on cuts so eh)… I don’t think hrg is a real top 5 heavyweight, but he is off that win.

Moses out, I think realistically he is a top 5 heavyweight. But if your 0-1 (and stretchered out) in fights vs top 50s you can’t be ranked in the top 15.

@Heldenjaeger: Sirenko in?

I had high hopes for Sirenko but I think he has found his level. OK the Wallin win was a good result but prior to that he was beaten by Solomon Dacres (who is far better than his one round knock out by David Adeleye might suggest but even so ...)

I don't see Dacres beating Itauma do you?

My bad, I meant to put Suslenkov in, not Sirenko. Suslenkov recently made Joyce quit and beat Smakici (who had Kabayel out on his feet, would have been stopped if not in Germany) and Michael Hunter.

You mentioned Michael Hunter, was this an unrecorded fight when he was with Triller? I don't see it ln Suslenkov's record.

It was an IBA fight.
I think Suslenkov is a legit contender who I would pick over Gassiev today.

I think the problem with that fight is firstly that it isn't officially recorded as a pro fight, and secondly, Hunter didn't appear to care which indicates he might not have thought it was a proper fight.

I'd rank Suslenkov above Gassiev though in today's rankings.

Suslenkov's record is a bit of a mess depending on what you count. I can account for 17-0 (11 KOs) in actual professional fights if Hunter and Stanley Wright are included.

What I don't understand is BoxRec's classification. Hunter and Wright are put under the separate IBA Pro tab, yet Joyce is included in his normal pro record despite also taking place on an IBA Pro card.

There's also the Ebenezer Tetteh fight on 31 March 2023 in Moscow, which isn't listed at all, although that one makes more sense not to count towards his pro record as it was only a 3-rounder. Suslenkov stopped him in the third.

There may be other fights I'm missing, but his record certainly isn't as straightforward as the normal BoxRec record makes it look.

Thanks you two. Yeah it doesn't exactly make tracking boxing records easy.

Hopefully he gets pushed in the coming year or so
