Kevin Anton-Yan Marcos, Justin Pauldo-Rene Tellez Giron top ProBoxTV event, October 1

Kevin Anton, 14-0 (12 KOs), will defend his WBC Continental Americas junior-middleweight title against Cuba’s also undefeated Yan Marcos, 15-0 (10 KOs), in the main event of ProBoxTV’s Friday, October 16, live broadcast from the Rawhide Western Town & Event Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

In the co-main event, WBC No. 5-ranked Justin Pauldo, 20-2, (10 KOs), of Houston will face WBO No. 11-ranked Rene Tellez Giron, 23-5 (14 KOs), of Queretaro, Mexico, in a 10-round lightweight battle.

Reminiscent of WBC 154lbs champion Sebastian Fundora with his 6-foot-3 stature, Palmdale, California’s Anton will be making his fourth consecutive appearance on ProBoxTV and fighting in his first main event. WBC No. 16-ranked Anton was last seen defeating Vladimir Hernandez by near-shutout scores of 100-90, 100-90, 99-91 in July.

Once a top international amateur for Team Cuba, Miami via Havana’s Marcos is a 5-foot-9 southpaw, ranked IBF No. 11 and WBA No. 15. Marcos currently holds the IBF USBA junior middleweight championship.

In his most recent ring appearance, 26-year-old Marcos had to overcome some rocky moments to defeat then-undefeated prospect Dwyke Flemmings Jnr, climbing off the canvas in round five on his way to a 10-round split decision victory.

Justin Pauldo rebounded from his second career loss, a split decision to Miguel Madueno in February 2024, by scoring an eighth-round knockout over former world champion Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in February 2025. 32-year-old Pauldo dropped Rakhimov in the first and dominated the rest of the way before landing a pair of straight right hands that sent Rakhimov to the canvas for the second time, prompting referee Mark Calo-oy to stop the one-sided contest.

Pauldo’s most recent appearance was a seventh-round knockout over hard-punching Colombian contender Nike Theran last November.

27-year-old Rene “El Bravo” Tellez Giron is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, including a September 2025, 10-round unanimous decision over Jordan White to win the NABF championship and a sixth-round stoppage of Maliek Montgomery to win the WBC Latino Silver lightweight title in March.

I like the Anton-Marcos match up, which will be a good barometer for where they are. It has the potential to be an entertaining fight between two undefeated boxers and should lead to bigger things for the winner, although the loser certainly isn't out of the long-range picture. I'm leaning toward Anton, who had a solid win over the always-tough Vlad Hernandez in his last outing.

Freudis Rojas steps in to face Kevin Anton on ProBoxTV, October 16

WBC No. 16-ranked Kevin Anton will defend his WBC Continental Americas junior-middleweight title against once-beaten Freudis “Freddy” Rojas in the 10-round main event of ProBoxTV’s next “Championship Series” event, broadcast live (8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm MT) on Friday, October 16, from the Rawhide Western Town & Event Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

With an injury in training sidelining original foe Yan Marcos, unbeaten 6-foot-3 southpaw Anton, 14-0 (12 KOs), a Guatemalan-American from Palmdale, California, will now face 6-foot-2 southpaw Rojas, 15-1 (11 KOs), of Houston via Las Vegas to top a card that also features WBC No. 5-ranked Justin Pauldo, 20-2, (10 KOs), facing WBO No. 11-ranked Rene Tellez Giron, 23-5 (14 KOs), in the 10-round lightweight co-main event.

A 2017 World Championships bronze medalist and 2020 Olympic Alternate as an amateur, 28-year-old Rojas turned professional in 2021 and stopped his first eleven professional opponents. 28-year-old Rojas has since gone the distance in his last five, going 4-1.

Against Anton, Rojas will be looking to get back into the win column after losing his last fight, a DAZN-televised 10-round unanimous decision to Mexican spoiler Damian Sosa in April of this year. Fighting for just the second time in two years, and the first time in over a year, an increasingly fatigued Rojas had no answers for Sosa’s relentless pressure and was knocked down in round six.

A rangy, long-armed boxer with good footwork and an excellent jab, Rojas is co-trained by his father, Freudis Rojas Sr., and Shakur Stevenson protegee Kay Koroma at the O to 100 Boxing Club in Houston.

A barber when not throwing leather in the ring, Anton’s family has roots in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Proud of his heritage, the 28-year-old southpaw frequently walks to the ring for his fights waving the Guatemalan flag and calls himself "Americo-Chapin".

In 2026, the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala officially honored him and Martínez with the Condecoración Soberano Congreso Nacional for representing the country with distinction.

Reminiscent of WBC 154lbs champion Sebastian Fundora with his 6-foot-3 stature and destructive, long-armed punching, Palmdale, California’s Anton will be making his fourth consecutive appearance on ProBoxTV and fighting in his first main event against Rojas.

WBC No. 16-ranked Anton was last seen handily defeating capable veteran Vladimir Hernandez by near-shutout scores of 100-90, 100-90, 99-91 in July.

ProBoxTV will be announcing more October 16 matchups shortly.

Tickets to attend live at the Rawhide Western Town & Event Center are on sale now and available through thundertix.com.

Kevin Anton, Freudis Rojas embrace the career potential of ProBoxTV card

On a card ripe with opportunity, Kevin Anton and Freudis Rojas made weight for the Friday night ProBoxTV main event at Rawhide Events Center in nearby Chandler.

Anton, 14-0 (12 KOs), of Palmdale, California, weighed 152.9lbs and Las Vegas’ Rojas, 15-1 (11 KOs), came in at 151.4lbs for the WBC Continental Americas junior-middleweight belt.

Victory for the 6-feet-3 left-hander Anton could propel him into the top-15 rankings, qualifying him for world-title bouts once the dust settles between current champions Sebastian Fundora, Jaron “Boots” Ennis and Josh Kelly, who are working to produce an undisputed titlist by the first half of next year.

Standing between Anton’s pursuit is the 6-feet-2 Rojas, a fellow southpaw coming off a loss and an intense training camp while aiming to use the exposure to regain his career momentum.

“I made this weight so easy … I have so much peace about this fight,” Rojas said. “It was such a tough camp, one of those camps that made me ask, ‘Is this for me?’ Turns out, it is for me. … This is something that’s inmy blood.”

Similarly, lightweight Justin Pauldo (134.1lbs) looks to elevate beyond No. 5 in the WBC rankings versus Mexico’s Rene Tellez Giron (134lbs).

Mexico featherweight Bryan Acosta, 21-2 (8 KOs), coming off a victory over former title challenger Ronny Rios, faces a WBC Grand Prix competitor Carlos Orona of Mexico with victory “putting him right in the mix for any of the champions. This is a fight that gets you ranked,” Acosta trainer Bob Santos said.

Acosta, who spent time training in Southern California under featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa’s trainer Manny Robles, weighed 125.3lbs while Orona came in at 126.1lbs.

Charles Harris Jnr (138.1lbs) meets Misael Cabrera Urias (138lbs) in a super-lightweight bout.

The 23-year-old Harris, 13-1 (7 KOs), has developed in the culture of trainer Brian “BoMac” McIntyre’s Nebraska gym, counting unbeaten five-division champion Terence Crawford and WBC interim super-middleweight champion Lester Martinez as stablemates.

“When you’re around pound-for-pound greats, it tends to rub off. Everyone wants to be part of that club … they see what it takes, they see the benefits of it,” McIntyre said. “I like the journey – the ups and the downs of it. I like to see the kids grow. That’s gratifying to me.”

Opening the five-fight main card at 8:10 p.m. Eastern/ 5:10 p.m. Pacific, Dominican super-lightweight Heidan “Sugar” Martinez 18-0 (17 KOs) weighed 139lbs while opponent Willmank Brito, 14-10-2 (12 KOs), was 139.1lbs.

The pre-subscription undercard on ProBoxTV features Arizona prospect Rahman Muhammad, 4-0 (2 KOs), a welterweight who weighed 146.6lbs for his expected victory over Mexico’s Jose Alvarado, 4-30-4 (2 KOs). Muhammad weighed 146.6lbs and Alvarado was at 146 for the bout scheduled for four rounds.

Muhammad, 25, said he’s looking to impress, “to win in spectacular fashion … it doesn’t have to be a knockout. As long as I look good doing it … .”

Muhammad, who made his pro debut in November, said he’s exercised patience as he navigates this early portion of a career, angling for an eventual world title but operating without a major promoter for now.

“You’ve got to be patient, especially when you have talent, because people don’t want to fight you so it’s a process,” Muhammad said. “That’s with anything. If you want to be a doctor or architect, that’s going to require time.

“Trick of the trade.”

In other fights:

8 rounds, welterweights: Trini Ochoa (147.8lbs) vs. Alex Martin (147lbs)

4 rounds, middleweights: Trenton Bradford 161lbs vs. Aaron Mick 159.2lbs

4 rounds, heavyweights: Trevor Kotara 233.1lbs vs. Aurek Anderson 218.7lbs

4 rounds, heavyweights: Siupeli Anau 254.2lbs vs. Bryan Hall 263.5lbs

Kevin Anton 'slingshots' way toward world ranking in dominating Rojas

Kevin Anton sought a performance gaining him inclusion in the world’s junior-middleweight rankings.

Friday night’s extended beating of Freudis Rojas at Rawhide Event Center, a relentless frenzy that marked up the face and fatigued the foe, should do the trick.

“It’s got to,” Anton trainer Sam Contreras said.

By scores of 98-91 (judge Chris Wilson), 98-91 (Dennis O’Connnell) and 97-92 (Paul Calderon), Anton improved to 15-0 with the tireless display produced from a southpaw pose and 6-feet-3 frame.

Born on the same day and each bringing height and left-handed power punching to the table, Anton and Rojas went through a tightly contested first round.

From there, Anton, of Palmdale, California, revealed all the differences between the pair.

Letting loose a series of whipping left-handed blows sprung from his 72-inch reach, he belted Rojas 15-2 to the face and body.

With Contreras directing the “slingshots,” Anton’s viper-like strikes left Rojas reeling, searching for an effective response.

Nothing was coming as Anton pressed forward with an effective combination in the fourth, then another set up by consecutive jabs.

The left-right onslaught to Rojas’ head puffed his left eye and had him in retreat as Anton pursued tirelessly.

An unanswered repeat of head combinations continued Rojas’ backtracking in the fifth and the weary opponent returning from a defeat in April had him thankful for the respite on his stool from the relentless Anton display.

Rojas suffered a one-point deduction in the seventh for holding, but failed to slow Anton pressure on the ropes.

Anton cracked Rojas in the head in the eighth, showing no ill effect to Rojas’ responses and pressing to deliver a finishing blow.

“A couple hiccups,” Anton said of not finishing Rojas, “but I’m happy with that.”
