That’s sad news. it reminded me how I met him once, something I’d long forgotten.

It must’ve been around 2005, and I was in an empty hotel bar in the Welsh seaside town of Porthcawl. Nobody was there except a guy having a drink at the bar, who looked vaguely familiar.. and I thought that can’t be him can it? I eventually went over and sure enough it was - he was amazed that he’d been recognised. Such a nice guy as well. We had a few drinks and long chat. A real gent. We talked about the Barrera fight, but I let him bring that up ( he looked like he’d been 15 rounds after 3 minutes, talk about bad matchmaking. )

I remember he told me he was working on some railway lines around there.

RIP champ

Yeah Paul had heart but Barrera was just a level above. It was a brutal one round fight

I just recently watched that one. Tough night for Lloyd, but honestly Barrera doesn't quite get the full credit he deserves a lot of the time. Barrera was truly a great fighter.

RIP

I only just noticed this thread. Very sad news.

Paul simply didn't do boring ! Always an all action fighter win or lose :box:

A solid career first picking up the Central Area title and numerous contests involving the British & Commonwealth titles before culminating in Lloyd capturing the European title.

Actually, both world title attempts were painful to watch against Tim Austin and Marco Antonio Barrera. At least Paul could always say he lost to a good world champion and a legendary world champion. :salut:

A sad loss for British boxing :verysad:
