Lewis - Bruno
Benn - Eubank
Eubank - Watson
Bruno - Bugner
Are the main contenders.
Maybe Cooper - Bugner?
Hamed - Robinson not big enough

Randolph Turpin v Sugar Ray Robinson at Earls Court
Henry Cooper v Muhammad Ali
I guess it depends on what you call 'bigger'? Crowd, Revenue generated, a true historical event?

Again numbers.
The last post suggested Benn v Watson. What was the capacity? 11k?

Bigger numbers?
Great point - what is the yardstick? Live attendance (in which case Joshua vs Dubois)
Or TV viewers? In which case Benn Eubank 1 at 17 million

Who cares, they're both rubbish, it's just hype. The fights meaningless.

Yes. But once the PR machine is accelerated, the casual fan will treat it like the biggest fight ever.
It’s for the WBA Super title don’t you know? Lol

Two disgustingly rich has-beens in a blatant cash out?
Come on...
Wardley Dubious was better.
Heck even Fisher Allen 1&2 was better.

Depends on the metric.
Financially, no doubt.
Interest/viewership - I don’t think so.
The hysteria will be mad the week before. But I don’t think it will stop the nation like Eubank-Benn did.
They had press conferences, contract signing etc. live on terrestrial TV. Your mum watched the fight with you.
That won’t happen with this. Partly because of the time and that it’s on Netflix.

Froch v Groves 2 is bigger than this. Casuals were always arguing with me over the result of the first fight and how great the rematch was going to be. I hear nobody talking about Joshua v Fury. This fight is at least 5 years too late.

People's are stating non all British fights, they're also stating fights which were free to air on terrestrial TV. The playing field is not level. This would have been if it was 10 years ago, quite easily. If you're talking the biggest two names, it's easily the biggest all British fight this century still though. It will probably have more viewers than a y of the others too. Does it mean as much? No. Do casuals care? No. People will talk about it being the great fight and they always told you that guy would win.

Wouldn’t ‘fight of the century’ only include fights from 2000 onward?

Defo fight of the century for the casuals.
For anyone even slightly more hardcore there have probably been dozens of more interesting fights
Froch v Groves 2
Froch v Groves 1
De Gale v Groves
BJS v Eubank
Haye v Maccarinelli
Frampton v Quigg
are just a few that spring to mind

Ultimately a fight only winds up really being remembered as special if it delivers in the ring. All the hype in the world doesn't save a dud from being a dud.
Very rare that a fight is hyped big and delivers in the ring as well, but when it happens we remember it.
To Me the most memorable Boxing thing so far this century is a few key rivalries.
Gatti-Ward
Pacquiao-Marquez
Barrera-Morales
Nothing has delivered as much bang for your buck as that series of fights this century to me.
The most hyped matchup so far this century surely has to be Mayweather vs Pacquiao still as those 2 are also the 2 Top P4P talents so far this century.

I guess it depends on one’s interpretation. I took it as last 100 years, but yeah I can understand many would interpret it as current century to date.

Lewis Bruno barely drew flies and was broadcast on expensive Sky which not many UK households had in 1993.
Had Lewis been better managed and kept on terrestrial television, and the fight staged at Wembley, it could've been bigger, but even then you'd have the issue of Lewis's lack of charisma and funny accent.
Bruno/Bugner was big.
