HEARN CONFIRMS ROCHA-WALKER SET FOR DEC. 5 IN WOLVERHAMPTON

Welterweight contenders Conah Walker and Alexis Rocha will square off in a WBA title eliminator on December 5 in Wolverhampton, England, promoter Eddie Hearn announced.

DAZN will stream Rocha versus Walker as the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card.

“It’s a brilliant fight,” Hearn, Matchroom’s chairman, said during an interview posted to his company’s YouTube channel. “We were in talks with Brian Norman Jr. as well for a fight, and then we had an opportunity with the WBA to look at a potential eliminator for the world title.”

Walker (18-3-1, 9 KOS) is riding a five-fight winning streak, four in a row by stoppage, since losing a unanimous decision to Lewis Crocker in June 2024. Walker stopped Sam Eggington in the 10th round of his most recent bout May 2.

Rocha (27-2-1, 16 KOs), a southpaw from Santa Ana, California, will fight outside of the United States for the first time in his 10-year career. He’ll compete in enemy territory, as Wolverhampton is Walker’s hometown.

But Rocha should come into the clash carrying tremendous momentum following his spirited unanimous-decision win against former unified 140-pound champion Jose Ramirez on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Rocha also beat Joseph Diaz Jr. by unanimous decision in March.

Walker is rated No. 3 by the WBA in the welterweight division; Rocha is listed at No. 10. Rocha is also ranked No. 9 by The Ring at 147 pounds.

“I look at the styles of these two guys, and it’s just like an absolute bloodbath, this fight,” Hearn said. “Conor Walker has been on an incredible run, and this is the fight to change it all, an eliminator for the world title, headlining again in Wolverhampton on December 5. It’s going to be a fantastic fight and another wild atmosphere. I think it’ll be a fight of the year.”

Surely Walker needed a 12 rounder to have a decent chance..?

Announced: Conah Walker will fight Alexis Rocha in a WBA welterweight title eliminator on December 5th in Wolverhampton, England, live on DAZN

Conah Walker to face Alexis Rocha on December 5 in WBA welterweight title eliminator

Conah Walker will face Alexis Rocha on December 5 in an eliminator for the WBA welterweight title in Wolverhampton, England.

Walker, 18-3-1 (9 KOs), most recently produced a 10th round stoppage against Sam Eggington back in May. It seemed Walker was then in line for a US debut with reports of a bout against former WBO welterweight titleholder. However, it was announced Friday that Walker will return to his hometown of Wolverhampton against Rocha.

The Mexican-American defeated former unified 140lbs world champion Jose Carlos Ramirez last month following a victory over former 130lbs titleholder JoJo Diaz in March. The contest between Walker and Rocha will be an official eliminator for the WBA welterweight title currently held by Teofimo Lopez.

"I'm back headlining in Wolverhampton in front of my people,” said Walker in a press release issued by Matchroom Boxing. “They aren’t fans, they are friends and family and I’ll give them another night to remember. From the first bell you know what I bring and this fight won’t be any different. I want to do a right job on Rocha.

"I'm enjoying every minute of my career and a big win on December 5 puts me one step closer to winning a world title. Let's have it."

The 27-2-1 (16 KOs) Rocha has admitted he is not too familiar with Walker ahead of his trip to the UK.

"I don’t know too much about Conah Walker yet, but I’ve watched some videos of him, and he looks like a strong fighter who likes to come forward,” said Rocha. “I’m looking forward to getting in the ring with him and putting on a great show.

"This is another important step in chasing my dream. I know that a win on December 5 will bring me one step closer to earning a world title opportunity and that’s why I’m working hard every day.”
