MAYOR OF HULL LUKE CAMPBELL SERIOUS ABOUT BOXING COMEBACK

Luke Campbell has confirmed his intention to box again after calling out Conor Benn.

The two-time world title challenger retired from the sport in July 2021 aged 33 and has since become the mayor of his home city Hull.

Campbell’s last fight came in January that year when he dropped Ryan Garcia before being stopped in the seventh round of their clash at Dallas' American Airlines Center.

Because of his role in that fight, Campbell’s name was brought up during the build-up to Garcia’s second-round victory over Conor Benn on September 12.

Benn highlighted Garcia’s knockdown at the hands of Campbell as evidence of a weakness in his opponent.

Campbell told The Ring: “I don’t think he was trying to be disrespectful but it was. He was basically saying ‘oh, Luke has dropped you so you must be nothing.’”

During an interview with talkSPORT, 39-year-old Campbell (20-4, 16 KOs) had joked that he would be willing to fight Benn after hearing those comments.

Now he says those quotes have opened the door to a ring return and is willing to listen to offers.

“Since I said that, it has opened up,” 2012 Olympic gold medalist Campbell added. “I think there's a lot of people that do want to see me back in the ring.”

“I think there's definitely a possibility that I could box again. There's always that fight that would grab your attention to come back if it was presented.

“I've always kept myself in shape, it's not as if I've gone off on a bender for five years. I'm always in training, still train boxing so I'm good to go if ever anything came about.”

On Benn in particular, he added: “I think it’s got to be a big opportunity and that could be quite an intriguing fight.

“I think Conor has got himself into an incredible position so fair play to him. Thanks for disrespecting me but if I was to come back he would be my warm-up fight. The possibility floated back around because of what went on for him against Garcia and him getting knocked down in the second.”

“I had 20 wins, 16 KOs and Garcia was one that potentially could have been victim No. 17 for me but he recovered quickly and got up.”

Benn (25-2, 14 KOs) was dropped heavily by a pinpoint right hand from WBC welterweight champion Garcia in the second round of their clash at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena before he was stopped on his feet moments later.

The 30-year-old is now expected to take a break from boxing before returning to the ring in 2027.

Benn is coming back at 160 or 168 so this means Campbell will be packing on a couple of stone from his heyday.

I'd still give him a chance.

Love Luke Campbell :D
He's doing a Manny, retire - then seek public office- then have a few fights ..
I don't think much of Connor Benn but Luke might just be too far past it. Algeri should have beaten Benn even at slightly past prime but he left it too long as well.
The last thing I want to see is Benn and his dribble d*CK dad standing over an unconscious Campbell laughing and jeering. I'm already triggered :KO:

This is a good reason to watch. Get Chisora on the card and have them both served up.

Chisora could fight Eubank Jr as he’s saying he is a heavyweight now.

yes. Reform councillors have been quitting the party in their droves the last few months as they begin to understand maybe Farage and his mob are not on the side of the little guy at all, and are just a bunch of rich grifters who don't give a to$$ about anything much at all. more lies, like the £350 million a week to the NHS they promised us after leaving the EU

Thanks.

Well at least they are waking up to the con. The Republicans in the US are still 100% behind Orange Pendejo.
