Joe Louis versus Riddick Bowe

12 rounds.
Impossible! Riddick Bowe was too big and too talented for a guy like Joe Louis. Louis was a great fighter, arguably the greatest heavyweight of all-time, but even in his best night, he ain't beating someone that's stronger and way taller than he, and that could hit hard. Louis's chin is the problem here.
Louis' chin wasn't chinny as you think. Yes, Louis was knocked out by Max Schmeling in their first fight in 1936 after he lowered his left jab that left himself exposed for Schmeling's big right hands. Also, Rocky Marciano knocked Louis out when Louis was 37 and put the Brown Bomber. However, Louis survived the knockdowns from the Cinderella Man Jim Braddock, "Two Ton" Tony Galento, Buddy Baer and both Jersey Joe Walcott fights and managed to win those fights after Louis was knocked down. You and I know that Bowe was the better skill big man than Primo Carnera, Abe Simon and Buddy Baer. Yes, Bowe had Holyfield's number in their trilogy with Bowe winning 2-1, but Louis fought in the same size as Holyfield when he fought in the 1940s. If Holyfield could beat Bowe with speed and timing counter punches in their second fight or the "Fan Man" fight, then Louis would do the same, but he would beat Bowe with more powerful jabs and punches than Holyfield had done with great timing under the 15 rounder. If they fought in the trilogy, Louis would take 2-1.elmersalsa wrote: ↑25 Oct 2026, 12:37Impossible! Riddick Bowe was too big and too talented for a guy like Joe Louis. Evander Holyfield also beats Joe Louis.scorpio83 wrote: ↑26 Oct 2026, 06:01Louis' chin wasn't chinny as you think. Btw, in your own words, the Brown Bomber was the class above Bowe.
Louis wasn't necessarily known for using his legs to outbox you though. He was known for being in your face and beating the sh*t out of you.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑27 Oct 2026, 08:25 Louis either points or by late stoppage. Joe is an inch shorter Holyfield and Bowe had plenty of problems with him. Louis punches harder anyone Bowe ever fought.
There's a crazy obsession by some poster about size difference. Was Usyk too small for Fury?
I couldn't have put it better myself.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Oct 2026, 12:58Louis wasn't necessarily known for using his legs to outbox you though. Bowe did struggle with Tony Tubbs a little so he could also be troubled by a kinda fat guy who never seem all that impressive at the top level.elmersalsa wrote: ↑27 Oct 2026, 17:15 No matter what you guys think, Riddick Bowe was not Two Ton Tony Galento.
Bowe cleans Joe Louis every day of the week. Twice on Sunday.
That's a point on why sometimes size don't matter which I forgot to mentioned earlier.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑27 Oct 2026, 13:25I couldn't have put it better myself.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Oct 2026, 12:58Louis wasn't necessarily known for using his legs to outbox you though.
