I'm going through the newspapers from 1973-1975 and found the answer. I'll post it later, it's a long one.

I was going to revisit both of Buchanan's autobiographies to jog my memory. Not sure how reliable a self-serving revisionist history will be though.
Duran's book is utterly useless, just a tissue of lies. Still claims it was a body shot despite the footage and the easy availability of it to all thanks to YouTube.
Maybe Guidice?
Anyway, look forward to learning what your contemporaneous sources have revealed!

A rematch was signed for in October 1972 with MSG as the promoter but the W.B.A. wouldn't sanction an immediate rematch; it wasn't their policy to sanction re- matches. To compound matters, the Panamanian government insisted that Duran make his first 2 defenses in Panama and Buchanan refused to fight there. In 1974, the WBA censured Buchanan for refusing to sign for a bout with Duran. Buchanan maintained he would fight Duran only in MSG but Duran's manager claimed Buchanan was pricing himself out of the bout. In 1975 Duran signed to fight Buchanan and the very next day, Buchanan announced his retirement saying he waited 3 years for Duran to honor the original contract to fight him in MSG.

Sort of confirms my suspicions that, for various reasons, neither man was desperate to meet the other again in the ring.

Carlos Eleta wanted nothing to do with Teddy Brenner. Brenner took pride in knocking off unbeaten fighters and Eleta held Duran's loss to DeJesus against Brenner. It seems Eleta felt Brenner wasn't upfront about how good DeJesus was prior to Eleta agreeing to the bout.
