Can't say he looks much better than he did in the pictures going about a week or so ago. Obviously has muscle under there, but it's struggling to be set free. Is weigh in tomorrow sometime I take it?

I assumed it was new as it cuts out his belly :)

Could be a favourite pose.

Interested to see the weights tomorrow I bet Toney is well over 240.

I'm not as concerned about his weight than about this "Old" look he seems to have got prior to this fight. I know it is only stills but there is no "blurr" in these photos - suggesting that he is not moving particularly fast - either in the hands or with the general movement.

These pictures resemble similar shots of Foreman when he came back.

He doesnt look in "terrible" shape, not a Kirk Johnson style out of shape.

You can be fat and fit. He knows Ruiz is going to be crawling all over him and he can't dance for twelve rounds so he could well be using the weight to counter the mauling that'll be coming his way.

I don't think the weight'll really matter that much to be honest. Toney'll have Ruiz timed, figured out after a couple of minutes, I think he'll fight off the ropes like he did with Charles Williams, bumping shoulders and countering all the time and after nine or so rounds Ruiz'll be fucked.
The way I see it, although Ruiz is bigger, if he hits Toney with the right and Toney takes it then Ruiz has nothing to beat him with.

The way the fight was brought forward to April from June because of Klitschko - Rahman was cancelled certainly didnt help Toney who we all know blows up between fights

I think its a mistake to say Toney's weight doesn't matter. His skills and speed will be diminished by coming in fat which could be a huge factor.

Someone even suggested over on the Current Scene that Toney could beat Ruiz even if he weighed 250.

He should be 210-215 at the most anything over that and he's carrying excess pounds so he'll be at least a stone and a half to two stone overweight. Not good I don't care how fit you are (is he really?) that will sap your stamina at some point.

I just don't think he'll need to be fit, I really don't. He's gonna be fighting a guy who rarely even throws a punch. Ruiz has a good jab and a good straight right and that's it, Toney will take those punches away from him and then what's he left with? Let's remember that Ruiz is just another fat bastard heavyweight anyway, it's not like Toney's gonna watch a guy with a bod like Ken Norton step through the ropes is it?

In the first picture Toney looks very thick across the shoulder area..looks like he`s filling out to me..becoming a legit heavy.....

The jury is still out on Toney at heavyweight as far as I am concerned. Wins over shot Evander and Booker are not really much of a gauge. I'll reassess if he beats Ruiz but until then he's a fat Cruiser. Ruiz by decision.

Toney's in for a very hard night and I can see it being a real maul-fest. All depends on whether JT can hurt Ruiz and compete with his strength in the trenches. If he can, he's got so much more to his arsenal than the Quiet Man. If he can use his handspeed and on the inside, use his right uppercut to dissuade Ruiz, then he's got a chance.

However, from those pics, if they really were taken in the last week or two, it doesn't look good for Toney from a conditioning perspective and in a mauling, close-up battle, he may find it even harder in the later rounds than he normally does.

Really want Toney to do this but I think his discipline is going to let him down. If he's going to fight at heavy I don't think he should be above 215/220. At his age, and for his height, I think he should be Cruiser at the max. If he had ever been able to control his diet he would likely be a successful light-heavy until recently, maybe even competing at super-middle up till 99/00. In this Ruiz fight, like so many times in the past - whether because it's too high or because he's too drained - I think his weight will determine if he wins or loses a fight.

I agree, if Toney is over about 225 I think he will be beaten... remember he still has only beaten a washed up Holifield, Ruiz is a stronger bigger heavy and if Toney is lacking his usual speed and reflexes then he could find himself in trouble against Ruiz... at the end of the day I still think Toney should be fighting at Light-heavy at the most.

After thinking long and hard, I've come to the conclusion I have no idea what happens here.

I'm thankful Toney's in with a relative non puncher, in heavyweight terms, as I really don't want to see someone his size taking full whacks off guys like Tua and co.
His chin is so good, he'll take far more than he should, and end up walking on his heels if you ask me. Dangerous game.

Still, he class, so I'll go for Toney to get inside Ruiz' head early, keep him honest with a few well timed hits, and see out a points win.
