As some of you might know, I'm producing some digital artwork, based on famous fights and fighters. I'm trying to think of fights which were dramatic enough to have a very conclusive finishing moment. I've already thought of quite a few of course, Lewis v Rahman II, Marciano v Walcott, Ali v Foreman, Cooper v Clay, Douglas v Tyson, Louis v Schmelling, Leonard v Hearns 1, Hagler v Hearns.

Any other people would like to see posters of? Bearing in mind that some great fighters don't really have a defining moment which is easy to capture in a single image.

Or are there pictures of particular fighters would like to see, rather than actual fights.

I've half forgotten it now, but would Lewis ko of Tyson be any good, for the occassion if not the actual aesthetics?

Leonard vs Duran 2 (no mas)
Patterson Johanson 2
Weaver vs Tate
Eubank vs Benn 1

Mercer vs Morrison.
Holmes vs Ali.

Dempsey vs Firpo.

What about that British lightheavy titlefight where the mother of one of the cmbatants hits her son's opponent over the head with her shoe? (I'm serious) Irony could be the theme

Hearns-Duran where Duran's face first on the floor. Mind you I don't know how much mass appeal there'd be for that.

I guess you're looking for a cracking shot/knockout that's come out really well on camera, like the picture of Jersey Joe Walcott's face being re-arranged by Marciano?

How about the gatti ward moment after the fight when both guys are knackered and busted up but hug each other in admiration

Done that one already, and it looks a cracker too...

There aren't that many great fights where there is a single definitive moment to capture.

..there are a couple of good photo references of basilio/robinson.....plus lamotta leaning on the ropes as the ref leads robinson away for a tko in the valentine's massacre. louis' kayo over walcott in their rematch might be worth mining.

now that you've got me thinking i should be able to come up with some more suggestions.

..one question...what are you using for your visual reference material?

The Bolo punch performed by Leonard vs Hagler - the one that was borderline low but brought the crowd to it feet.

I think it was Holyfield vs Bowe to when there they were just whaling away after the bell and both cornermen came in to stop it. I think Emmanuel Steward Rugby tackled Holyfield to the flaw. It really a great image to show the intensity of that trilogy.

I have some cracking stills of of some great fights, like the punch that shook up Frazier in the last round of his third fight with Ali (he is very bloody and marked up).

Dempsey v Willard, where he lands the big left hook that just twists Willards neck.
Takaloo v Alexander, much the same as his neck gets twisted.
Berbick V Tyson, Trevors wobbly legs and the look of sheer frustration that their not responding.
Julian Jackson V Herol Graham, the vacant look on the Bombers face as he just falls.

Just about any bad KO basically

Yes, however, there often isn't a good photograph as the source for these. Often, there is only the film footage, which is harder to capture.

how about one of those shots of RJJ, Hopkins or Lewis covered in championship belts after a fight. Theres one I remember of Roy he must have about 8 belts fastened round him.

Yeah, I was going to do some of them, but they strike me as a bit dull, and they are the sort of thing which lots of other people are already doing, they don't look that great, and to be honest, it's a lot cheaper to just by a photograph which does the same thing.

Those are precisely the sort of things I do not like, mock impressionist paintings of fighters. I'm not a painter myself, but if I were, that's the last thing i'd want to be doing.

I like Leroy Neiman, he's the only boxing artist I really think has any great talent for it.

i know some people like that sort of thing, each to their own.
