In some ways I am quite glad that he has gone cos he is fcuking boaring however there is somethign to be said for his complaint that being a nice guy in boxing seems to loose you fans while fuckwits like tyson remain idolised as role models.

Yes, but Tyson could fight mate, and even now way removed from his prime he's more exciting to watch. Ruiz is a boring pudendum, that's why fans hated him.

Just imagine having to live with the knowledge that out of the 3 former middleweight champs that became Heavyweight champs, you lost to 2 of them!

Now that Ruiz has retired i hope that its the end for Norman Stone too. I cant stand that wanker. Although i wouldnt be surprised to see him pop up in audleys corner

I am actually a bit gutted he has retired (he'll be back, IMO). Despite his fault he had some good wins and is still a top 5 heavyweight.

They might be dull affairs by Byrd vs Ruiz and Ruiz vs a few others are quite hard to pick.

He achieved a lot considering he was not the most gifted of fighters.

I wish him a happy post Boxing life.

Well yeah considering the depth of his talent his achievements are remarkable. He must have made some decent money over the years too. So despite his total lack of entertainment value throughout his entire career i don't begrudge him a content retirement - just as long as he goes.

Don't i remember him announcing his retirement the first time he lost his belt to a former middle weight champion though?

Fair comment.

Tyson is a bad boy & many people have a fascianation with bad boys.

Tyson is like an out of control fire at a chemical factory; you know it shouldn't be happening, but you just have to watch!!!!!

I'm so sick of these titles, it totally down plays every great boxer of the past.

Example: Calling Oscar De La Hoya a 6 division world champion is plain absurd.

He was only the champ at 1 division (154, for one year) two divisions at most (147).

I would add his reign at 135 as geniune aswell. He did unify the WBO with the IBF title there and generally beat some damn fine challengers.

He'll be back...if Toney part unifies the title he'll get to be a WBA 'super champion' or whatever they call it and then I wouldn't mind a bet Ruiz fights for the vacant WBA title.

Fellow you must be a prophet.

Ruiz just announced he is back. Who knows he may fight Toney again. If he comes back and beats Toney I will start respecting Ruiz.

As for Ruiz retiring in the first place it was a bad decision. I mean the man is very young and did not get much damage in his career. So if old decrepit fighters like Tyson, Bowe and Holyfield are still fighting, then surely Ruiz can make some money still in boxing.

Do you think Toney will give him a rematch?
